I just created a persistent catalog from a 70GB gold image. Is there a way to add HD drive to the created VM?
j
What hypervisor are you using?
d
vsphere
version 7.0.3
j
d
but ideally id like to extend the main C drive disk
its weird that non-persistent allow you to modify HD size without issue but persistent is tricky? should be other way around in theory.
j
oh you are just trying to add disk space to the existing C Drive? Persistent VMs tend to be their own entity once off and done, MCS doesn't do much with them post provisioning (there is more and more coming though)
d
yea but like if someone starts using the VM and then they run out of space, what are we meant to do? It's not as easy to recreate since the user will modify the VM to their own settings/apps/etc
j
Just expand the disk as per normal in VMware and then windows - unless you use linked clones then you will need to clone it to a new full vm in vsphere - linked handicaps you a little

thats the thing. VMware is greyed out. No snapshots, machine powered off
j
Means you are linked vs full cloned. It’s a catalog setting on initial deployment. You can clone (or convert with converter) that VM out to a new VM in VMware which will full clone it, then add it to a manual catalog in Citrix and a new delivery group. You will need to remove the vm from the old catalog before adding the cloned vm to the new
d
ah yea i did do that. "Use full copy for better data recovery and migration support, with potentially reduced IOPS after the machines are created." the reduced IOPS scared me. shit
can you modify the machine catalog for future machines to be full clones or a new one is needed?
j
Unfortunately you can’t - once it’s set it’s set to the best of my knowledge, typically best to create a new catalog and provision new machines from there for new ones. You can keep all your existing ones, just a bit of work to convert them to manual machines and reimport them
Don’t worry about the iops, it should be negligible unless you are really constrained and pushing the storage
d
ty first time doing persistent and was just going with it but thats part of testing
j
Been there man, it’s all good learning
d
so for manual catalog, that means "other service or tech"?
j
yep - just a normal power managed catalog without provisioning - you can then browser your hypervisor and find your machines. Note that with VMWare, there is a tag that gets set on the machine in vsphere (XdProv or something like that), you will need to remove that tag else it won't display

Thank you for your help. Had an issue renaming it, didnt let me no matter what i tried so we just scrapped and restarted the concept from scratch.
