I am starting to think we need some more documentation or set for how the new Flexed licensing needs to be applied. I have worked with two customers today to switch their licenses over. The first one, I was able to get their appliances that were already setup for pooled licensing to accept the new licenses as "Pooled' still on build 13.1. The second customer we had to remove and read the license server. The first time we could apply bandwidth, but not instances. Remove and re-add and then we could assign the instance, but not bandwidth. Restart the NetScaler and remove and re-add one more time and it finally accepted both instances and bandwidth. I think it is about time that the vendors (not just Citrix/NetScaler) understood that licensing my product should not require much effort on my part. I don't need to prove to them I have a license. They need me to prove to them I have a license. I am not sure why they always make licensing and after thought with very little development on making it easier and faster. Ok, /rantoff

Amen. Have you tried to license a Cisco product recently? LOL . This is so true.

Was this NetScaler Console on-prem or cloud?

I actually have one environment with pooled vCPU licensing and we need to migrate that environment from on-prem ADM to Console Service. I'll store the rant in our wiki 😄

https://docs.netscaler.com/en-us/netscaler-console-service/manage-licenses/flexed-licenses/transition-to-flexed-licensing Looks like it should be painless if you are transitioning from pooled premium license, but I do not trust Citrix for shit on this. Also who the fuck wants to wait until expiry before transitioning. Let me do it before so I have some time to clean up in case it goes to shit.

There has been some really interesting things with the licensing with purchased per instance licenses too, one customer had too old license files installed and when they upgraded from 13.0 to 13.1, they lost licensing and parts of configuration. Fortunately they had bought (should be included, and will be with UHMC) and setup a test environment so they spotted it on that side prior to doing anything to prod.
