Never seen this Mike myself man

Yeah it’s a new one on me. Also having trouble getting this policy to apply to the VDA. ListofDDCs not updating. I tried skipping the filter and also adding Controllers to the Unfiltered - still not getting pushed down, so something is odd/up.
Thanks Ray

To be honest, I always hated running Citrix Policies in GPMC. Now that is just me. But, I always do it via GPP computer policy too on that part. Not that it will help you now, but it's an option
m
I do to, I never do it but as I understand it, you have to do this one setting in GPO to get in front of the VDA registration process, otherwise you never end up at the right set of Citrix policies. For this setup I need to re-use an existing VDA with Controllers set in the registry to point elsewhere. I do this sometimes with PVS and DR setups.
r
Ahh I see. So yea, in that case the GPP way, the desktop service starts to fast. Which is why I delay it. To be honest, I had no idea doing it via GPMC it would actually apply before the Desktop Service started.
m
I've had good luck doing it this way. I have PVS images I copy to DR or different sites and even if it's hardcoded in the original image, has always worked for me. But those are images I built and I'm pretty picky. This one is built by a customer and it's not working, so I'm not sure what's different. https://www.rorymon.com/blog/set-list-of-ddcs-on-citrix-vda-7-x/
I tried also pushing a registry edit down directly, and now it's getting it, but it's a timing issue. ListofDDCs is manually set by GPP registry setting but it's too late. I wish I could figure out why Rory's method isn't working.
r
That is what I always run into myself. I have to tell the Desktop Service to delay some. Then it works
Couple of ways, delay it via GPO Services, Schedule task, or my fav.... BISF
m
I’ve never gotten up to speed on BISF. This would need to be done on the master though, right? I can’t edit the original master as it’s still in production elsewhere. So need to use GPO but it’s just not working. I tried running GP Editor on the other controller and I get the same inability to apply to a Delivery Group. So for now I set it in the Unfiltered policy but it still didn’t seem to be working. Forcing a registry setting seems to work but the timing is wrong.
Wonder if I can force a restart of the desktop service via GPO….
Ah that did it. I set a restart of the service at boot via GPO
This is working but sometimes it’s a bit of delay before registration works. Workable, but not optimal. Now the credentials are not passing through the VDA 🤦‍♂️ One thing after the other here
