remove trend and move on in your life
🙂
j
Ive been through a stack of old tickets we raised years ago but the issue was meant to have been patched by Trend/Citrix a couple of years ago. Has any one seen this in recent times on 2022? cheers
Cheers JK, I know this issue has been a pain in your ass in the past! 🙂 Trend is on the way out but I need to try and make this fly short-term... such a ballache!
j
unlikely your problem to fix - if it works without Trend - pass it back to Trend support, turn on defender, and run for the hills - that solution is a nightmare
j
Yep.. we have case opened with them. I will ask Citrix too just in case but Defender short term seems the best way to go, cheers
j
I have zero time for Trend products, they have taken way too many years off my life 🙂
j
Yeah, I let the customer see one of you old public comments on Trend "The destroyer of projects" 😉

I had a ticket open with Citrix, they said it is a bug in Server 2022 They provided me this script. # Remove old Display drivers # https://discussions.citrix.com/topic/417832-cvad-connectionfailure-after-install-ltsr-2203-cu2-on-server-2022/page/3/ $iddHwId = "VEN_5853&DEV_1003" $pnpDispDevPath = "HKLM:\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\SWD\RemoteDisplayEnum" $iddDevEntries = Get-ChildItem -Path $pnpDispDevPath -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue | Where-Object Name -Match $iddHwId if ($iddDevEntries.Count -eq 0) { Write-Output "No remote ID device entries found." } $iddDevEntries | ForEach-Object { $devName = ($_.Name -Split "\\")[-1] $PathToRemove = $_.PsPath try { Write-Output "Cleared values for $devName" Remove-ItemProperty -Path $PathToRemove * -ErrorAction Stop } catch { Write-Output "Failed to clear values for $devName" Write-Output $_ } }
Uninstall VDA and then run this script
j
@Selimir - the entry it clears doesnt exist on the master image. Its only created after the image is updated and VDA come up via MCS. I did try that.. thats also the script I used to fix. Then I reboot via Windows (Not Citrix/MCS). When the machine is rebooted via MCS is comes back, cheers
All I get on the master pre/post VDA install/uninstall is No remote ID device entries found, cheers
s
Strange on my side this did help, but we have persistent VDAs
j
Yeah, the script works but non persistent method keeps resetting it 😞
j
@John Gallacher can you execute that as part of the startup process?
j
Hey JK, once its run, it need a reboot. So workaround to get some prepilot done has been that but once reboot on schedule via MCS Im screwed
So ive been running it, then rebooting via Windows ...
j
oh dear - fair call, that is nasty - and problem goes away with no Trend?
j
The mad thing is, it doesnt exist at first if I RDP to the VDA before any Citrix connections.. even looked at blocing reg perms to create but getting too messy...
We removed Trend/rebooted and it didnt happen.. possible got lucky and Im chasing a ghost.. I will open with Citrix and follow up with Trend... the joys! 🙂
j
🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮 you should ping Gorman, he dealt heavily with this
j
Already chatted to him.. the fixes for that case dont apply argghhh
j
I have a good fix for you

What AV would you recommend? CheckPoint is a pain. We had issues with some apps with Defender, big pain also ...
j
I've seen happy customers with CrowdStrike, Sentinel One and some Cylance too -> none are perfect and all need tinkering, but the next gen ones seem to be pretty OK, the usual players killed so many projects -> McAfee, Symantec, Trend. Defender was a jerk but a known quantity and easy to fix up on the fly. That was my experience throughout consulting FWIW

j
@Selimir - do you happen to have a note of that Citrix case nbr so I can reference it? cheers

We have this as well intermittently on a customers setup. VDA 2305, Server 2022. Sick and tired of all problems with Citrix nowadays. No Trend Antivirus though.
@John Gallacher so after the scheduled MCS reboot you execute the script and then have a scheduled task to do a Windows reboot right after?
j
@Robert Berggren - thanks bud, I have a call with Citrix today at 2pm UK time. I'll keep you posted, your idea might be my only option (until I get a proper fix) cheers
r
@John Gallacher I feel this is more of a problem with MCS, do you agree? I have PVS customers not affected at all. A thing I've noticed (I now believe only on MCS) is that maybe the first user logging in gets a notification on indirect display something Citrix.... "please restart to finish..." Have you seen this?
