are you using HDX Insight?
+ what size private key?
p
currently 2048 and yes HDX Insight is in use for ADM
k
Not sure what's the situation today, but at some point having over 1000 CCU with HDX insight on virtual wasn't possible
p
"Similarly, our virtual ADC VPX appliances are limited by the underlying hypervisor or cloud platform and have a maximum limit of 9,000 concurrent HDX connections to a single appliance."
k
Ofc it's just not 4500CCU, different game if you have that amount of 3D CAD users or some static ERP or similar
p
sure that's true. In this case regular task workers without 3D
k
so not too much bandwidth, but I'd still assume you need a pretty big VPX to cater that amount of sessions
With that user amount I would probably build up a GSLB setup where I would distribute the load to several boxes rather than running one HA pair. Losing one box wouldn't drop all the sessions and the HDX insight might work better. However, I have no actual experience on running that amount of sessions other than on the hardware boxes
Do you have a take on this @Mads Petersen? (4500 CCU, HDX Insight enabled on VPX)
m
Take a look at https://docs.citrix.com/en-us/tech-zone/design/design-decisions/cvad-bandwidth-estimate.html to get some estimates on the throughput, but regular task workers with some browsing would still be around 2250Kbps, so you're looking at a VPX3000 at least, maybe even higher. You might just be in the ballpark where a smaller MPX would be a wiser choice, since you control the hardware, whereas a hypervisor can have a lot of other stuff running that can affect your performance. Also keep in mind amount of the packet engines that a VPX can have is tied into the license, take a look here https://support.citrix.com/article/CTX139485/memory-and-vcpu-requirements-for-citrix-adc-netscaler-vpx

Thank you Mads! Yes we thought about a even higher edition like VPX5000. Do you know a customer which uses VPX in a similar scenario? I guess you're right regarding MPX. Another plan was to add two appliances (HA) in each of the two datacenters. ... this would be the safest choice I guess.
m
Remember if you’re going to do GSLB there is a lot of considerations on the cvad side about how to handle user profiles, printers and such. My biggest issue with VPX on a larger scale, is the hyper visor is out of my control almost always, so I can’t control the resource or overcommit, which could lead to a degradation in performance for the appliance I own.
k
You should definitely have HA for that amount of users.
m
HA is a given yeah.
