Can’t recall right now but I’ve always used the Putty defaults for serial.
c
The LOM should have the right emulation settings automatically, but over serial I never bothered brute forcing the "right" settings. You should be able to hit left arrow 28 times, type "single", hit space then hit enter to get past this iirc.
m
Hitting the left arrow that many times resets something and it doesn't work. I can't get into the lom because I don't know the IP. I just got sent these and told to wipe them, with 0 info. Would be easier to re-image the hard drive

https://docs.netscaler.com/en-us/citrix-hardware-platforms/sdx/installing-the-hardware.html Before connecting the console cable, configure the computer or terminal to support VT100 terminal emulation, 9600 baud, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, parity, and flow control set to NONE.
m
I've got all that set, I don't know if this is something to do with being on a mac, going to try putty from a windows machine but this is a miserable experience
c
oh you're trying to just flatten and reinstall the boxes, and they're SDXes?
if you can plug that hard drive into a machine with fdisk then we can make it boot to recovery and reimage itself
m
I can, how do we do that?
c
The system drive has a hidden partition on it. Change the partition type to W95 FAT32 (LBA), mark it active, and mark the old boot partition as inactive
should be "fdisk /dev/sdx", then use "a" "1" to mark recovery part active, "a" "2" to mark the old boot part inactive, and "t" "1" "c" to change the partition type. then write it and put it back in the box, watch the serial console to see it go through the process
they updated their external article (i'm guessing you are looking at already) to accommodate some platforms that differ a bit as well, but they all achieve the same goal whether they're done on the SDX itself or using another utility machine. https://support.citrix.com/article/CTX200662/how-to-restore-netscaler-sdx-to-factory-default-settings
m
ok, I’ll give that a go
that did it, I wish this was better documented
all I had to do was mark the first partition active
thank you, I have spent hours on this

glad to help. I managed the networking gear demo pool so I'm real familiar with doing this stuff on autopilot 😂
