Hey Team, a customer is using a XenServer 8.4 (Patched 29th of March) Pool with a configured Bond (2x 25 GBit = 50 GBit) for MGMT, which is primary used for XenMotion. When doing live-migration of VM's (Storage is NOT changed) there's only used a maximum of 802 MB/s which is way to slow. Any known issues or custom-configs which should be done to speed up the throughput? In theory there should be a max througput around 3-6 GB/s. Datacenter is in the same location, attached to 100 GBit Switches, so theres no technical brake at the infrastructure-side. Thank you!

XenServer - MCS Master Replication Hello ! Does anyone could confirm me that is possible to export the MCS Snapshot of the master to another Pool to create a new MCS Catalog ? When the import on the second Pool, do we need to recreate a VM or the snaphot is usable as this ?

XenServer - Intellicache Hello everyone, I try to found a documentation about the sizing of the local storage when using Intellicache with MCS, but I don't. Does anyone have input to share ?

Hello, Does anyone have any experience running VDA's on Proxmox? They're not listed as a supported hypervisor, but I'm not sure thats primarly for using hosting connections/mcs etc.

Buts its probably more efficent to use Xen if your plan to move from another hypervisor

Yep, but unfortunately Xen doesn't work natively with the backup solution, so trying to find the path of least resistance :D

I am having such a bad time, bad perf with W22 and XS8.4 AMD, very high CPU usage. We had to stop our rollout. Same W22 PVS vDisk on XS8.2, it's flying. It's Dell PowerEdge R7425. I found some had issue with the NUMA affinity, CPU scheduling on XS8.4. XS8.4 AMD with our W16 seems to work well.

Hi Folks, we are strongly considering migrating our PVS workload from XS to Hyper-v Windows Server 2025. Any feedback? Better perf? Main reason for us is VBS/cred guard, perf and overall support, more knows how to manage Windows.

So, looks like Broadcom is killing our VMWare Reseller partnership as well. Sigh. Where can you buy resell licenses these days now? Anyone dealing with this already?

To my knowledge, for homelab you can take the VCP-VCF exam, and sign up for VMUG Advantage, and the combination is supposedly supposed to provide you with home lab licensing (for personal use only). Other than that, you're stuck with using an eval.

Anybody know if there's ever going to be a Packer builder for XenServer that works? The one that's out there is ancient

Hey, I'll share what I learned after 1 month struggling with W22 performance (worse perf I ever faced) and XenServer 8.2 or 8.4 AMD processor. 1. We had good perf with W16, same setup 2. Being fully up-to-date didn't resolve the issue, including our Dell host stack and vDisk. 3. The bottleneck was the CPU, very high CPU usage for processes. 4. The issue is because NUMA, we have 2 ร— AMD Epyc but the amount of RAM was not good. For correct NUMA node, you must get an integer dividing cores by nb of DIMM. 5. W22 is more NUMA aware than W16, it explains why W16 was performing OK. 6. I have XenServer Intel CPU, 2 processors also and the performance is good, not sure yet if at the same level than Hyperv but clearly not as bad as AMD. 7. Really the issue is XenServer + AMD + W22 How did we fix it? We migrated to Hyper-v .... the way hyper-v handle NUMA works better, even if 32 vCPU out of the 128 vCPUs are not used (the 128 vCPUs are used in XS and it could be the issue), the performance is at the same level if not better than W16. I have a case with Citrix but so far, no fix and tbh I don't care, we're moving to Hyper-v and perf is really awesome!

So with more people asking for XenServer for on-premise pools, I was looking for a shared storage cluster that could be deployed on the XenServers to use their local storage and cluster it as iscsi for the XenServers themselves. Landed on PetaSAN. Looks pretty slick. Anyone else done anything similar to get a "nutanix" style setup on XenServer?

So, am I reading the announcement by Broadcom correctly that the white-label program is going away in October, and i'm legitimately not allowed to host my clients on VMWare moving forward from that date? Anyone else see this stuff? Broadcom ends VMware partner program - Techzine Global

Hey all! I'm looking to evaluate XenServer for my home lab. Right now, i've got 3x HP EliteDesk 800 G4 i7-8700) units running ESXi 8 Is anyone use XS at home with desktop hardware? I've got a garage at my new place, which I could put a rack mount style server into, but i'd prefer to stick to SFF desktop units. LMK what you're running?

With XenServer 8.4 is it possible to move the xenmotion/Live Migrate network to a non management network? Not talking storage here just normal VM/Memory migration. THe docs only seem to refer to storage live migration.
