Today, we also have a
9.0.0.alpha2
package available in the testing repositories. For Linux, the testing repositories can be configured by using the
openvox9-release
packages from: • https://s3.osuosl.org/openvox-artifacts/index.html#repo_test/apt/ • https://s3.osuosl.org/openvox-artifacts/index.html#repo_test/yum/ Windows and macOS packages can be downloaded from: • https://s3.osuosl.org/openvox-artifacts/index.html#repo_test/downloads/ There are a couple big changes with this release: • Windows packages have arrived. This brings a build of Ruby 4 from a new toolchain based on MSYS2 + MINGW-w64. OpenVox 8 continues to use the old Cygwin + MINGW toolchain. One benefit of this new build is that we now use the same
x64-mingw-ucrt
platform as upstream Ruby. This means gems with compiled extensions, e.g.
gem install nokogiri
, should be able to use pre-compiled builds from rubygems.org without requiring the Windows node to have a compiler and dev tools installed. Massive thanks to @Sebastian Spritzgebaeck Rakel for figuring out how to get the MSYS2 build running side-by-side with the existing Cygwin build. • A
9.0.0.pre.alpha2
version of the
openvox
gem has been published, for use in running test pipelines against the OpenVox 9 pre-release. This release also contains some breaking changes, notably: • The
preprocess_deferred
setting has been reverted to the Puppet 7 default of
true
. This means deferred functions are resolved early in the catalog application process, before any resources have been applied. This version also contains CVE fixes from yesterday's OpenSSL 3.5.7 release. See the release notes for more details: https://github.com/OpenVoxProject/openvox/releases/tag/9.0.0-alpha2 Shout-outs to @Steven Pritchard for getting the OpenVox test matrix updated to Ruby 3.4 and 4.0 along with JRuby 10.0 and to @bastelfreak for getting 8.x backports automated, a lot of cleanup, and general awesomeness. This release is still an ALPHA stage of development, but let us know in the #C088QSEH1RA channel if any issues pop up -- especially with the new Windows builds. Looking down the road to OpenVox 9: we'll be landing more breaking changes to remove deprecated features, getting JRuby 10 into OpenVox Server, and testing OpenVoxDB against the latest Postgres versions. That's all for today. Have a great week y'all 😁
