• puppet apply is easier to test in CI
• puppet apply allows me to make use of someone else infrastructre to distribute code (we have lots of nodes in other peoples DC's with bad latency so using someone else CDN is very attractive)
currently we do use some exported resource but i can probably refactor away from that pretty easily. however puppetdb is a nice resource to have for reporting, generating metrics, running add hoc reports etc. so i was wondering is it possible to have a set up where you use puppet apply but still have the reports going back to puppetdb. now i know this means we still have to have our own centralized infrastructre so we are not completly fixing the issues we have with bad latency etc. however sending one report at the end of the puppet run is much easier to optimise then all the other interactions ftr the file serving is i.e. using file {/foo: source: puppet:///....} is what causes the most problems.
• is this somthing that spossible, do i just set reports=puppetdb in the puppet.conf ?
• anyone else doing this and have some shared stories?
• am i crazy 🙂?
• anything elses i may not have considered?
