last week I finished all the main features/improvements I've had in mind for Yakread, or at least all the ones that I think have potential to move the needle business-wise at the scale I'm currently at. There is still a bunch more stuff that I'd like to do, however, I'm not sure that coding full-ish time on yakread is a very good use of time at the moment.
I've got a big ad going out in two weeks, which I'll use to measure how efficient Yakread's signup+onboarding funnel is. if it happens to be great, than I can probably justify continuing to work full time on yakread (albeit mostly on marketing probably rather than just development). otherwise I'll do more of a long-slow-organic-growth strategy.
and honestly, I'm kinda assuming the latter will be the case. I'd love to be surprised of course (in a good way...). but starting tomorrow I'm going to make open-source + consulting my main thing (the former is my top of funnel for the latter) and then have yakread be my "alt" project--e.g. probably work on it one day a week on average or something. and then ideally in several years (🤞) yakread will be mature enough to bring in a full income by itself.
