since I've gotten into a groove of writing off-the-cuff-ish thoughts here in discord, I thought maybe worth experimenting with mastodon again and substack notes. I'll just be copy and pasting stuff from here to there: https://substack.com/profile/113327141-jacob-obryant https://social.linux.pizza/@obryant666 While I'm not concerned about trying to get lots of subscribers, I do still want to meet new people and develop relationships and stuff. So I'm thinking about if/how I want to use social media to that end. I think I may need to dedicate more time to looking for people I'm interested in following, and then engaging with them wherever they happen to be writing.
that^ vein is also related to my thinking over in #1100859512790982736 Also, ugh, the thought of replicating all my follow-on-thoughts onto mastodon or twitter sounds like a huge pain. probably will just stick with pasting the initial posts without replies. would be kind of nice to have an app where I could write posts and publish them to discord, mastodon, and substack notes all in one, but I have absolutely no time to build it
Perhaps the best workflow (at least for people like me) is: - pick one platform/community where you'll post your short-form thoughts as they come (for me, this would be discord) - put any thoughts you want to spread elsewhere into your weekly newsletter - decide what other platforms/communities you'd like to be on (for me, possibly mastodon and substack notes) and post your weekly newsletter there in thread/summarized form - other than that, make an effort to find other relevant people to follow--especially since people who don't already have big followings won't tend to show up on your radar unless you put in some legwork. follow their newsletters/blogs/social media accounts and reply to their posts when relevant. Be judicious about who else you follow so your feeds don't get clogged up.
it sure is annoying that discord can't just give me publicly viewable links for forum topics
that is the appealing thing about trying out substack notes: I could put links to stuff I write in the newsletter. However I don't like putting all my short-form posts into the big social media soup thing; I like having a more dedicated, organized space for them
