Hi. I tried to add a
strategicMergePatches
to a release that uses a Helm chart containing the Helm
lookup
function. It seems once kustomize comes into play, the
lookup
function no longer executes.
I tried adding the following to my
helmfile.yaml.gotmpl
file in the
helmDefaults
section:
diffArgs:
    - '--dry-run=server'
In the hopes that would get the function to run, but it still doesn't seem to.
Is there some other way to get the
lookup
function in the Helm chart to run when kustomize is involved?

could you post an issue on github?

Hopefully this is okay. I don't have a minimal proof of concept... https://github.com/helmfile/helmfile/issues/2271
Somewhat related is that when I use
strategicMergePatches
to instal the
kedacore/keda
Helm chart that also breaks because it wants to remove all the CRDs it installs. I don't know why that happens... It isn't the lack of the
lookup
function running for this one, and I see no function involved at all, so it made no sense to me. I'm using
strategicMergePatches
on 9 other helm charts without issue. It's just the grafana and keda one I've hit issues with so far.
Do you want a separate bug raised for the keda one as well?

Thanks. I saw that a while ago so I'll check it out. I'm hoping it also changes how the KEDA CRDs get installed as well, so I'll test that and if it doesn't work I guess I'll raise a new issue.

ok

The new version has fixed the issue with the
lookup
function, so the
grafana
helmchart installs properly now. But the use of
strategicMergePatches
with the KEDA chart still causes it to want to uninstall all its CRDs. I have no idea why even, but will raise an issue with as much detail as I can give to see if someone else knows why.
