As of the current documentation and release notes (up to version 4.0),
StarRocks does not support Deletion Vectors in Iceberg V3.
Here are the key details regarding Iceberg and Deletion Vector support:
*
Iceberg Version Support: StarRocks currently supports
Iceberg V1 and V2 tables. It supports both
position deletes and
equality deletes for V2 tables (available in Parquet and ORC formats starting from StarRocks v3.1/v3.2+).
*
Deletion Vectors: While Deletion Vectors are a major feature of the Iceberg V3 specification, StarRocks' Iceberg integration is currently focused on the V2 spec.
*
Delta Lake Comparison: Interestingly, StarRocks
does support Deletion Vectors for
Delta Lake catalogs starting from version 3.4.1, but this capability has not yet been extended to Iceberg.
*
Roadmap: Support for Iceberg V3 capabilities (including Deletion Vectors, the
VARIANT
type, and nanosecond timestamps) is a known feature request in the community but is not yet part of the stable releases.
If you are looking for efficient deletes in StarRocks for data lakehouse architectures, you should ensure your Iceberg tables are V2 and use position or equality deletes, which StarRocks handles via its vectorized execution engine.
