Since I didn’t build the railing…what more do we need for the railing? Can we just transplant the existing railing?

Yes. The railing is very simple. I think it's just vertical bars attaching to some pieces of 4x4 I attached to the decking? Some BS like that.

Good list! I added a couple items: • 20 bolts? • Tamping tool

What are bolts for? Did we use bolts to screw the beams together? Do you know what size bolts?

pretty sure the beams are bolted together. And we were supposed to use caulk but did not.
Not sure what size, wasn't on that project

We need to do the decking calculation tonight so I can call the lumber order in tomorrow. 20' long bridge, let’s plan on 6' ramps? So 32' of bridge, or 384". Using 5.5" wide boards with 0.5" spacing produces 64 2x6's. 1" spacing = 59 2x6s. Make sense?

I also want to call this in on the early side tomorrow to get a $ quote, because I suspect Mack might decide against doing this once she finds out it’s gonna be $1000

Is the bridge 20' long now?
~60 2x6s checks out
Max cheapguy: 1.5" spacing, 3' ramps only 44 boards (30% cheaper) 3' ramps are going to be pretty steep
26º angle seems pretty freaking steep
if there's no bridge, then can we just build furniture for quarry and access points for the lake? I'd spend $150 on that: some plywood, 2x4, screws. Fun! Maybe there will even be a party budget to reimburse it!

isn’t the bridge 20' long? I thought we bought 20' long 2x12s for it
If we can get away with 4' ramps, it does save some, since we don’t need as many 2x8s

idk i wasn't involved in the beams. 20' feels a little longer than I remember, so just checking if you're sure. Anyway, won't affect things much, bc we'll still need about the same number unless it's way shorter, then we have extras yay
Ok here's a nasty part - the 2x6s we should buy as 12' pieces, right? And then cut in half. But if we buy them as PT, they'll be much more expensive, so might want to buy ~30 12' boards and some sealant stuff they usually use "copper green" at the property, even though it's bad for fish n junk
updates the shopping list

I was thinking regular 8' boards…
bridge piers and lumber ordered. 12' 2x6s cheaper than two 8' 2x6s, so we’re getting that. non-treated
they didn’t have urethane stain, so we’ll need to go to HD to get that. I figured we’ll get the screws and bolts there too
is this something someone other than me has time to fetch tomorrow?
$933.02 for just the lumber.

Mack ok with that price tag?
HD is super busy these days, but I can go to OSH. They don't have my fave screws, but that's ok.
Which bolts? Also - should we count on Mack for a tamping tool?

she asked me to call a place in Willits. It’s cheaper - $794. I call Long Valley back to cancel. Guy’s like “oh, i typed it wrong, it’s actually $727.”
i’m guessing if she had me call Willits, she’s okay with the order of magnitude and wanted to see if she could shave 10%
If you can go to OSH that would be supa ❤️
Bolts – 4" or longer. Not too thin, but don’t need to be enormous. 1/2" thick maybe? Get a nut and two washers per bolt. Maybe 10 sets.

Yeah, I'll do that. I took off Friday on Monday. Renee took off half of Friday later on Monday. So I'm doing grocery run Monday morning and can throw OSH in on the way

got my roof rack today btw
I'm going to get 1. a big box of screws 2. 12 bolts with nuts and washers to match 3. caulk + gun (need this for my home anyway) 4. NOT buying a tamping tool just for this project; I'm sure Mack will say "we have one gosh" -- maybe she will even be able to find it!

A mechanical tamping tool is thousands of dollars. A manual one is as good as a board with a rope

i am skeptical about the "board and a rope", but haven't done serious tamping before. Have you? I realized this is also the first time I'm building something for a vehicle to drive over?!
