BIG BIG news people! This weekend we discovered and tested a new spot for late night music, and Mackenzie has given it the ol’ thumbs up!

Pearl Jam, speakers setup on the right pointed at the hill with the light tree
Daytime sets for swimming, night time for dance party
s
you mean the camping spot next to Mud Beach?
c
no quarry?
d
We had the same setup as the marina with a little less volume and you cannot hear it from the other direction
Yes
s
So I like that you found this. But it has the same problem as the quarry….it’s too far from where people are camping
d
With 250 people it’s likely we want two spots for late night music
Yes but the quarry is a dead end. This is along a path folks will want to walk along
👍 1
Plus it serves as a day time stage too
c
So the speakers go up at the nice camp site there and point across mud beach towards the hill? ie they point directly into the trees?
d
No
c
?
s
pointing this way i think?
d
Yes exactly that but not pointing into the trees
Remember when we camped there

For the bridge building
s
I think we can try this, I have the same concern for this location as I do for the quarry….it’s too far and it’ll be a ghost town. During the day there’s the draw of the lake. So if we want to do this, we need to think of other ways to draw people up there than just music, and ways to make their stay there more comfortable (like water & food & pillows)
c
I think this is a great option. Night time walk to that point on the lake is fun and i’ve done it for no reason many times. I’m mostly concerned about drowning (night + lake = swimming at night = dying)

s
yeah, there’s that too. Someone Else with a powerful flashlight to spot people in the water and get them out?
c
naw, they’ll just die. What happens is you go with a few ppl to get away from the music and smoke a joint or whatever, but you aren’t sure who is really “with you” and you hang out for a while and maybe kinda doze off then wander back but maybe not everyone is with you and one person actually slid into the water or went for a little swim with 1 other person who actually never came back and no one is really trying to track the other ones.
ppl die in like 60s so the rangers would have to be doing constant sweeps of not just the main beach but any possible access point
d
Whats to stop folks from doing this without music up there?
I do see your point, but folks take late night canoe trips on the lake as well
We could say "No swimming after dark" or something but there is no actual way besides physically blocking the water from folks to stop them from swimming at night
c
Don't the property rules say there is no night swimming?
d
I believe so - no one in our group of 5 was asked to sign anything
c
I think we should just accept it as a risk and maybe put up a sign. We are attracting ppl to the lake at night, which does heighten the risk. But this is a spot that she is suggesting, right? So let’s use it before someone else drowns there. (Also i think other events are more likely to have ppl drown bc dumbs)
s
the rules do in fact say that. as does the waiver. as does our survival guide.
c
Ok if nighttime speakers remain at mud beach, where is the dance floor? On the beach? If we are concerned about people falling in bc they are high or whatever, we can probably do a temp fence made of poles in the ground connnected with a ribbon/tape at the top as a symbolic this-is-the-edge barrier
d
She rolled up in party mode after midnight and said it was a good spot and you could not hear music coming from the other side of the lake. She then started talking about some 4-way speakers which cancel the sound of the others this dude has in willits, but then began her adventure walk again and said we'll talk later
No the sound is at Pearl Jam
1
Not at the beach
Pearl Jam = Lakeside Campsite
✔️ 1
Sorry
c
Ah ok so speakers are in the road, pointing toward the water, and the dance floor is the Lakeside campsite next to the road?

Here is a shitty drawing. Correct me @dry-vase-19852 ?

I had already started my own version but yes basically.
DJ Booth with an easy-up over it with some lights and then LEDs around to keep folks from falling into the bushes
c
nice! and there is a luxe tent there, so it can be outfitted with more squish for the squishful, and then @cool-pizza-44770 can lead some seating/bench builds that I bet Mackenzie would like to keep there or deploy elsewhere around the lake when we are done
d
There are no luxe tents
Not sure if they will make a return but for now no luxe tents are setup
c
from the horse’s keyboard: “Mast Family [errr where is this?], Abuelo, Loggers, Lakeside, Cannonball will have the luxe tents. [2 at each site] We will have another 2 available we can set up for an additional $500 per tent, should your guests want 12 total luxe tents.”
s
she should build a chairlift from the village to the lake
👌 1
c
ok @square-country-13088 wanna make a tensegrity chairlift?
😁 1
c
$100 lift ticket day pass and that would actually be a good investment.

I share the concern about people swimming at night, but also I’m pretty sure it’s gonna be way too cold at night to want to do that.
The getting people up there feels like a bigger problem. I wonder how hard it would be to light the whole way, at least with a bunch of solar lanterns.
s
I’ve swam at night at Priceless where the water is colder... it’s amazing what one will do when a pretty girl wants you to take your clothes off and go for a swim with her
c
or, in Martin’s case, a pretty boy! fwiw @bland-answer-10540 I think it would be pretty trivial to light the way with solar lanterns
s
The Perseids folks set up a trail of electric tea light candles in paper bags the whole way up the road. If we can find ones that can last 72 hours, that’s prob easier & cheaper than solar lights.
b
that’s soooo wasteful though
i have some already i guess
s
They can be reused if you replace the battery. The cheap solar lights are more wasteful because most of them break and use even more plastic

b
i know i said i wouldn’t really put my chips in on speaker placement so i’m happy to let it go i guess id just say having 2 musics a 15+m walk away could split the party in half
i guess that’s my concern
c
@dry-vase-19852 correct me if this is wrong, but I thought you were proposing the “Pearl Jam” stage as an alternative to the “Village Lawn” stage, and that there would be no official night stage downhill from the lake
c
at 250 revelers, i’d hope the party is split b/w at least 2 spots
s
I think the big stage lawn should be camping (byo shade) and we should have a music area elsewhere in the village area (portals, loggers, or the dusty fashion show triangle come to mind)
but yes, two music areas seems dope
d
Likely three sound areas. One larger setup down near Lanai tbd, one at the Pearl Jam and one at quarry
Night time music would be quarry and pearl Jam
Daytime would be downstairs and Pearl Jam
