wow guys...never take an online exam with psi
that was some Kafkaesque stuff now
it took them 2 hours to finally tell me that my system is not supported
i was in the exam and answering questions, but the proctor constantly told me to relaunch the browser, which upon reconnect connected me to a different proctor every time
then tech support entered the chat
they couldnt even read the chat messages prior to them entering
i had to provide my full details about three times to three different tech support guys because they couldnt read their own chat
and all this after it took me half an hour to launch their pile of garbage secure browser software
also, their stupid software apparently changed the keyboard layout on my system
t
were you taking a certification exam?
that sounds terrible
a
yeah, AWS Solutions Architect Associate
I would normally have taken it at the local pearson vue provider, but for some reason my CC was not accepted in their online form
psi unfortunately accepted it
but they have no test center near me, so i went for online test
you are told to appear half an hour before the exam and download their secure browser
so you log into their page and click download and some tar is downloaded
you extract and run the binary blob and some kind of installer runs, downloads something, then closes...and nothing else happens
but you now have a launcher that does nothing upon launch
so you look at the launcher, and its trying to start an appimage
alright, so you install libfuse2 and try again, and lo and behold, IT LIVES
i even managed to do all that before the exam launch time
everything seemed to work, i held my id to the cam, which was first rejected, because apparently they never saw a swiss id card before
then he accepted it first but rejected it again because no expiration date...well, its on the back side
after about 10 minutes later that was sorted, so i showed my whole room via the webcam and demonstrably put my phone far away
then it really seemed like it would work, the exam started, i was answering questions, and suddenly chat popped up and the proctor complained he couldnt see the exam page
whatever that means
and thats where the Kafka story began
t
damn that sounds terrible
did you pass lol
a
no i couldnt complete it
proctor wouldnt let me
t
that sucks
a
i only about answered 12 questions in over two hours
the biggest issue for me was that it seemed the proctors were not even human...they were supposed to understand English, but it didnt really seem like it
and telling me to do something a 4th time, when it CLEARLY didnt work three times before
sure dude
tech support was also grotesque
i was talking with a guy named Jeff and he asked some details from me so i told him and suddenly a gal named Eve barged in and asked me the same things again
i told her I was just talking to Jeff about that and just provided all that info, but she acted like there never was a Jeff
I had to provide everything again, despite it being one line above her initial message in the chat window
then later a Jeff entered again, but it was not the same Jeff, or at least he acted like he didnt know anything
t
was it jeff bezos?
a
haha
seriously i was questioning my sanity there
anyway, im now getting a refund and then will probably have to figure out a way to pay pearson vue to do it in their test center

I had a similar very painful experience with PSI online proctor exam. Ultimately I was able to proceed and pass, but it was all very stressful.
d
Did you lean about much doing the prep for those?
a
Yeah, it gives a good level of knowledge in my opinion, not terribly deep, but still good enough to work with the most important things they have to offer
I mainly used the book AWS Solutions Architect Associate Official Study Guide, and also did some of the online courses in the aws academy thing
d
Cool. I’ve been considering that as a step in my educational process
a
The questions Ive seen so far were pretty involved, like multiple times you are presented with some situation description of what some company wants to do and currently has and you have to select from a couple answers that almost all would work somehow and you have to decide the best option for them
I-m not very positive that I would have passed, I was only sure of my answer in about 50% of the cases
in most other cases there were 2 options that both made sense and I ultimately was able to decide on a better one, but without being absolutely certain
and there were also a few that I had no idea really
also they seemed to involve multiple different areas of the AWS environment in single questions quite often
so I guess it kind of lives up to its title and is not just a simple knowledge checklist
the questions in the book were usually a lot simpler, although it also had a few that went in the same direction
a
rough. i just did one in person for this reason the online ones seems like a nightmare. i heard if someone else walks in the background you automatically fail
a
Yeah, also you are not allowed to whisper or move your lips in a way that could be interpreted as talk
Anyway, at least I got my money back.
t
That is insane
