Hey Kyle.. This is something I've been thinking about a lot lately. I've always thought the main "jobs to be done" on the catalog page should be "bulk editing". We haven't touched the catalog UI in a while, but have spoken about it a little internally. One thing that we've heard from other customers is that they wish they could filter down the catalog page and bulk assign owners, collections, status etc. One thing the breadcrumb search might conflict with is this bulk editing functionality. That being said, I do think the ability to see the breadcrumbs is important, but maybe it's better placed in the "search" tab for an editor. The bread crumbs search is really good for an analyst who is data literate and knows where to go, whereas the "google" search we currently have on both the editor and viewer mode might be a little bit more helpful to a viewer. This is an internal discussion so I'm glad to have your opinion on this. I don't think we've made a firm decision on the best analyst search UI / UX but I'll update you when we do. I can even share some Figma mocks if you're open to it once they are up?

On the point about questions on a resource, it’s something that is in the backlog and will prioritized soon in one of our upcoming weekly cycles. @abundant-crowd-2724 from Panasonic has also been interested in this feature. Now that questions are a more mature feature, we’re much more confident rolling it out across the entire application for use cases like this. Here’s the link for the feature. https://linear.app/secoda/issue/SEC-306/questions-on-resources

Thanks for the detailed responses! Would love to take a look at the Figma mockups, I agree that the google search is useful but as a semi-literate user i find that a topdown view of the assets within a database can be useful too. Since we do plan to share Secoda to both business users (and semi technical PMs) and engineers alike. Being able to navigate topdown can be useful. Especially since I cant click the breadcrumbs yet

One idea Andrew had on this was a toggle for the view to search. Maybe this is the best way to solve this? (i.e a toggle for breadcrumb search vs. google search) similar to finder on the mac. What do you think of that Kyle?
a
Would the toggle be in the search or in the catalog section? I feel that the schema overview is the most intuitive for most users who actually want to look at the catalog. A toggle could work though if you mean the toggle would then display the hierarchical structure of the DB/Looker assets

We were thinking in the catalog page
It's not something that
viewers
would be able to see

Gotcha, I think it might still be valuable while the search function still isn't working as expected. For example (I just dm'd Andrew about this related to another topic but applicable here), I've been combing through 20 pages tryingg to find our
fct_workers
table, and if there was a way for me to just access it from some topdown view that would be very useful (unless the search fix comes through soon then I guess this isn't needed)
