Hey team! I was wondering if secoda has the ability to monitor DBT jobs themselves. For example, we want to keep an eye on a few of our DBT jobs execution time over time and be alerted when anomalies show.
b
Hey Eric, hope you're well! Just looking into this for us.
g
Thank you for the timely reply! 🙂
b
Appreciate your patience here Eric! At the moment, there isn't an option to create monitors specifically for dbt jobs. For context, are you looking to see when execution time is higher than expected? Just wanted to get some more context to share with the development team to see what's possible and get a feature request created for us.
g
exactly! If the execution time is higher or lower than expected, we would love to get an alert to that 🙂
b
Hey Eric, got an update for us! To set up a monitor to track dbt execution time, you will need to click on the Analytics section and then add the
dbt execution time
widget. Once you add the widget, if you click on the 3 dots beside the widget, you'll see an option to add a monitor. The only limitation at the moment is that it doesn't flag which specific run failed. This is something the team will still be working on. Alternatively, you can also add the Monitor from the
dbt test failures
widget and that would send a notification when a dbt test fails.
g
Hey @best-answer-87711! Thanks for the update. Under widget, I don't see a
dbt execution time
widget. I see a
dbt test execution time
b
Ah yep, apologies it was meant to say dbt test execution time.
g
So that checks the dbt test execution time only is my understanding. I'm looking to see the execution time of the job itself
b
That's correct. Just wanted to share some alternatives to see if they would work for your use case. I've shared the feedback with the team and we have a feature request open for this as well to see if we can support job execution time directly from the dbt integration and set up monitors.
