I have been running a competitor ad and seeing the CTR is low because of one of the obvious reasons that I cannot use the competitor name (keyword) in my ad copy. Also, the cost was really high, so we changed the bid to Target CPA. Now the cost is controlled, but we arent getting good number of clicks and again CTR. 1. So, for such campaigns how do you ensure you are getting good results at a controlled cost. 2. One thing we were planning to implement was to change the bid strategy to manual CPC. Would that help?

1. copy is everything when you're pitching against a competition. i'm still learning the ropes but it plays the biggest role (cue: hertz vs avis campaign) 2. keep your landing page neutral but targeted, try not to oversell yourself or undersell your competition, draw a fair comparison and list out reasons why and who should pick you over the competition. this goes back to point 1 about good copy (which in turn comes from good research, can you list 3 definitive, non-bs reasons why a prospect should pick you over your competition? great then you have a head start) 3. on bid strategies, target cpa can work if you just increase its max bid limit, try doubling it each time and see where you find the sweet spot. manual cpc can also work. it is really dependent on who the artist is, the paint brush can be anything. 4. try warming up your audience with a YT/brand marketing testimonial campaign, that can potentially improve your CTRs

@Mansi Peswani listing down the things that have worked for us : 1. We moved to manual CPC it has given us better result, would suggest you to run an A/B test and then take a call 2. In the Ad headlines would suggest to have Dynamic keyword and also pin the headline that is working the best for your ads, generally having keywords similar to “Alternative” helps 3. On the Landing page, make sure that you have a detailed competition comparison (this won’t improve the CTR) 4. Do add negative keywords regularly as this will keep on optimising your campaigns.

1. With target CPA 1 experiment on ad copy. Take a pun shot at the competitor. It's about catching the eyeballs of the users. 2. It should not be the only campaign you run against competition. Get a retargeting audience created and target them again. 3. Landing Page plays a crucial role in these campaign. Experiment what to show - also if you have any special offer for such BoFU customers show it upfront 4. Like @Aniruddh Jain said try maxing your bid after you taste success 5. I have personally not seen much success with Dynamic keyword - it sorts of spoils the headline. But try it if it works for your audience Happy to chat over DM

This is GOLD 🤩 I think I am going to try almost each and every point that you mentioned @Aniruddh Jain @Sid @Pranjal Rajawat And, yes we have made very keyword specific landing pages and I do believe that landing page is one of the most important part to get great results from such campaigns, as you all mentioned. I will work on improving that, too, from your inputs. Thanks a ton 🙏

Ok.. Guys, one can't use the others brand names only when it's been trademarked by that brand ™ right? Else, I guess you are free to mention in ad copy right? (obviously not trying to be an imposter, but can always say example, better than MailChimp right?)

@Mansi Peswani - We did on regular basis at Razorpay on Cashfree and Pay U Keywords. Both Razorpay and Pay U keywords have higher search Volume then the Category itself
