Hi Harshini - how many pages fall into the bucket of 'crawled but not indexed'. It does happen sometimes. There is an option to request for reindexing
h
Interestingly when I got to the individual pages it’s not even been crawled. I’ve requested 2 pages to be indexed one being the homepage. I assumed if it crawls the homepage it will index all linking pages as well but that didn’t happen. It indexed only the homepage 😂
s
Alright. Can you check meta tags are not set to noindex, nofollow?
And indexing typically takes a few days. So give it sometime
h
Yea I've done the basic checks. there's no nofollow. I've been doing SEO for many years now but never faced an issue like this. I submitted the sitemap more than a month ago it's still not crawled
a
Hi @Harshini, now that you have done all the basic checks, also try adding an internal link from other pages(if performing pages then great) to the not-indexed ones. As relevant of course. Another opportunity for crawlers to come across the pages.
s
If it's crawled not indexed, check for the quality of content. By quality I mean is the information/structure similar to what you find on thousands of other pages that are already indexed.
h
Thanks @Aiswarya Menon and @Sreeram Sharma for your suggestions. To set some context, its a brand new website and with a new domain since it's being set up for the first time. It's for a small organisation so there aren't many pages right now. Here's the website link to give you some idea: http://silkdesigns.co My only hunch is that content is a little less. But that can't even be the problem right now since search console says that the sitemap was read but there were 0 discoverable pages. So Not sure what's going wrong there cause the sitemap is working fine. Checked it multiple times. I'm using Yoast SEO so it's the auto generated sitemap that I am using. Also when I check the individual page, it shows last crawled as NA so I don't think its not being indexed due to low content or bad technical stuff. It looks like something is wrong at a more fundamental level. Let me know what you think
a
In that case, especially if there aren’t many pages, you can manually request indexing like Srikanth said, and ensure there are internal links to the page.
h
Hmm yea so I've already manually requested for 2 pages. One (the homepage) is indexed and linked to all other pages, but the other pages didn't get recognized. This site is going to have blog articles launched soon, and I'm worried that this issue will continue, so I'm trying to solve it at the root to avoid this in the future

The homepage is indexed @Harshini, use the site: operator
h
Yes yes, that's what I mentioned na.. I manually indexed that
a
@Harshini Only the homepage is indexed? How long has it been since the site has been live?
h
about a month
s
h
Yes, I've submitted the parent sitemap which is https://silkdesigns.co/sitemap_index.xml and the page sitemap is under the index one
a
In one case I have seen sitemaps having a no-index command at the very top. If I’m not wrong when crawlers encounter this, the entire list of URLs are skipped. Not sure if this is relevant for you, worth checking.
h
Oh let me check
🙌 1
Just checked, doesn't seem to be the problem. There's no noindex on the sitemap
a
The site is mobile friendly as per the testing tool. So that’s good. Which pages aren’t indexed from these? I checked 3 from Pages list, they are crawled. Blog is indexed too*
Performance can be improved. Some sources site this could hinder indexing. JavaScript issues are common.
a
On what stacks website built on?
h
Wordpress - divi theme
@Aiswarya Menon where did you check the indexing?
a
you can go to google search console.
a
@Harshini Googles mobile friendly testing tool. It showed last crawl was today.
h
You mean pagespeed insights?
That's really weird @Aiswarya Menon cause search console is still showing indexed as 1
🙌 1
Ok also realised search console data is 2 days backdated.. so maybe it will reflect in a few days
a
h
Yes, the crawl info mentioned on mobile friendly tool is just the info of when the test was run.
a
Right! These were two potential factors some sources cited could be issues. So checked! 🙌
gratitude thank you 1
