But most remote jobs are exclusive to US or EU timezones

Note the source "LinkedIn data"? Now, how many of us here have landed a remote-job through a LinkedIn job posting? πŸ™‚ ( LinkedIn != The World πŸ˜‰ )

TBH I am seeing a lot more jobs which are remote-friendly instead of 100% remote. There is a base location say Bangalore, India but you can work remotely 100% (except for a few weeks every quarter). I will count them as remote jobs, even if above stats doesn’t. πŸ˜›

@chilly-rocket-77832 that's true, but the trend suggested from the data is also looking true elsewhere as well. Until 2 months back I was looking for a remote job for upto 6 months and didn't get any, granted I haven't had proper experience with remote jobs earlier, I should've at-least gotten some interviews considering there is Amazon on my resume. After looking for a long time I've joined a hybrid job.

@thousands-morning-63911 Hmmm... OK. i wouldn't read too much from that one experience though. (For example i know a guy who got ~10 interviews in 3-4 months and subsequently 2 remote jobs this year. He simply researched online, including the monthly "Who's Hiring" thread on HN, and applied directly on the respective Companies' websites ) Also, very likely there are other factors at play. (including domains/niche one is looking to work-in, where one applies online, relevant-experience, ...)

Some companies refrain from approaching ex-FAANG as the companies believe they cannot meet candidate's salary expectations. Also, i know some folks consider Amazon straight out of college a negative due to "over-engineering" prevalent at Amazon (no proof, only hearsay).

One way to compensate for this is to contribute to open-source projects and highlight them in your resume. It helps to have public examples of one's contributions to documentation, discussions, reviews, and code, that demonstrate how well one is able to work asynchronously (often with folks across the world) (helps not just with remote jobs, even otherwise too.)
After looking for a long time I've joined a hybrid job.
Cool πŸ™‚πŸ‘πŸΌ Maybe others here who may have recently got good responses when looking for remote roles can chime in with more details on what worked best for them when looking for remote jobs...

@chilly-rocket-77832 Can you please elaborate this? I don't understand this and hearing this for the first time πŸ˜…

Basically, it is assumed (atleast in the circles i frequent in) that many teams in Amazon have bad engineering practices. (of course all big companies have this issue, but the perception is that this is far more widespread and a lot worse at Amazon) So, while it may not apply to every ex-Amazonian, there's a bit of luck involved when one mentions prior experience at Amazon. β€’ if the work has been integrating various internal infra. β€’ especially if that is the only prior-experience. Having public links to meaningful work either in any popular open-source tools/frameworks, or even any fun side-projects. is one of the ways to counter this perception prevalent in certain circles.

My 2 cents regarding the remote job scenario now that I hold multiple offers: β€’ Remote jobs are still there but God knows for some reason some startups (seed/Series-A/B) are arm-twisting employees to come to office because they feel that it helps in team and get the job done quickly (debatable). β€’ Remote jobs take time to find and you have to patiently wait for the right opportunity. Ideally search for Remote-first companies or use the Remote filter on LinkedIn and apply. β€’ Over reliance on LinkedIn is bad as there are multiple job portals that have remote jobs available. So LinkedIn != World statement is true. My experience is based on for position of Senior Backend/Senior Software Engineer/Team Lead position and maybe biased Senior people may have a higher leverage.
