Have you ever used a dumb phone to curb smartphone addiction? If so, which phone to buy? I bought Nokia 105 early this year, but got a faulty piece.
d
Isn't that better for the use case though? 😅
g
Haha i need to make calls at least.

My mom used jiophone. They're buggy and very slow. Exhanged the phone for new one and it also stopped working in 3 months.

I use samsung galaxy s9+ .. it has a battery saver mode which turns my phone to dump phone with black wallpaper and only calls and whatsapp app can be used .. I prefer that .. as I can switch its feature back on whenever I like

Nah I need a dumb phone. I'm going to have to spend a couple thousand experimenting I suppose.
f
Yes. A lot during exams in college and even when I am studying for tests now. It's a bit uncomfortable initially but it completely frees up your brain from the impulsive checking habits. I would do it again if there were half decent dumb phones available with proper 4G connectivity. When I upgrade my smartphone, I'll wipe my old phone and not install google play services etc. It'll work as a dumb phone.
g
Yeah I want to free up the mind. Kind of dopamine detox. I'll look for a 4G phone. let's see.

You can try app blockers like Freedom or Digital Detox as a temporary hack
g
Ah I've tried, but I need a blocker that can't be bypassed.
f
Both can't be bypassed if you activate administrator mode.
g
Ah I see. I'll check them out then. Thanks man!

@faint-energy-11966 Does that work on iOS as well?
f
Sadly no. Most blockers don't work properly on iOS. The only good one is Ochi but it can take a bit of an effort to set up. Worth a try.
g
BTW @faint-energy-11966 digital detox app is a godsend. Thanks for the recco!
