Stupid question that’s bugging me: Should I buy an iPhone from Amazon or the official website? I can’t decide, please decide for me! 😄
f
If there isn't a price difference, getting from apple.com is a way to go.
a
@flat-morning-91037, if there’s a difference (i.e., lower price), is it safe to go from Amazon considering the phone is worth 1 lac?
f
I've bought pricey stuff from amazon in the past, as long as it is prime and amazon fulfilled I'd order it, just be sure to record unboxing to avoid any surprises in the packaging.

And also check whether the product is genuine here

Thanks folks!

always Apple as Amazon will wash their hands off during any issues and refer you to Apple
a
@gifted-airplane-45450, yep on-point. Going with Apple’s official site (even if I’m paying more)!

@ancient-honey-30834 Which phone & how much?
c
i think amex cards have some offers of upto 15000 off on official apple transactions. a friend asked me to use my amex card to buy mac+ipad recently
r
@gifted-airplane-45450 why would anyone want to go to Amazon for issues with iPhone when Apple is there to service it?
2
Go with whatever's the cheapest. It doesn't matter where you buy it from, you'll still have the same warranty and support.

g
because if you have a problem within 7 days of purchase and want to return the iphone, who would you go to @red-oyster-35440?
r
I've usually gotten good offers from Unicorn and Vijay Sales.
@gifted-airplane-45450 how to say you've not refunded anything with Apple India without actually saying so 😝 There is no return policy for any Apple products when buying from Apple India.
g
for Apple, the service centers are local and one can take it to them to get the issue sorted. if you buy through Amazon, they will not entertain any issues and redirect you to Apple, which then becomes a game before Apple decides to step in. also, Amazon doesnt have their service centers but only sells a product to you. there are countless horror stories even on Amazon reviews where people had to do 2nd/3rd level escalations to get Apple to intervene. the thing is Amazon is just a middleman selling this while Apple is the OEM and has local tieups to service the product if defective. no easy way for both ways but atleast you dont have to struggle in the middle trying to return within 7 days and the period has lapsed between trying it figure out with Amazon and Apple
r
There is no return policy, irrespective of where you buy it from. Dunno where you're getting the 7 day return period from. Any Apple products, any issues, your first call should be to Apple support, either over call or by booking an appointment with an authorised service centre. The process is the same for getting Apple support, whether you buy it from Amazon or Apple. There is no point in reaching out to Amazon, they cannot do anything for Apple products in India.

Online sellers stopped taking returns because of cheap internet and budding YouTubers. 🙃
r
Amazon still takes returns or has a 7 day policy for other products. They just don't have that for any Apple products, AFAIK.

Which device are you planning to buy @ancient-honey-30834 ?
l
I would actually get it from a Unicorn store (online as well) or a reliance digital. Both have good rates - cheaper than Apple and also give you a GST bill. Haven’t been able to get a GST bill from Apple

I have purchased from all 4 places and my experience has been good with all of them. Apple because of their buy back on old Apple phones. Amazon because of GST bills. And Unicorn and reliance for better deals + GST bills.
a
@loud-glass-33663, physical Reliance Digital or the online one? Which one gives you better deals? I've never purchased from the online one. Also, what's this Unicorn you're speaking of? Link?
l
@ancient-honey-30834 https://shop.unicornstore.in/ I have purchased one iPhone from the physical reliance store. They had a pretty decent discount on an HDFC card - so I had dragged in my cousin who had the card and purchased it via that. The Unicorn stores - the physical stores will give the same price as the online store. Bought my most recent iPhone from them. You can be rest assured everything is in order and they give you a GST bill which I needed. Basically depending on whoever has the best price going on. I have even got it once from Amazon directly and once from Apple. All phones have come in great condition. Amazon sends it in a tamper proof bag - but it helps to have someone record a video when you open the bag and box for proof incase someone has switched the phone (never happened to me ofcourse - but I hear of stuff (fake?) on reviews on Amazon)

My current iPhone is from Flipkart, no issues from the purchase whatsoever.
Also multiple friends of mine bought apple devices (3 iPhone, 1 iPad, 1 watch) from a local seller (smuggler I guess) who sells for a price way below than the amazon price, every-time I ask them to check the device id on apple coverage and all of the devices are fine until now. As long as the box is intact with seal, apple products are generally fine. Earliest purchase was 12 pro max for my friend and its still going strong.

Follow-up for you folks: Is Apple Care worth it (costs another 18k)?
g
I have but only for iPhone regarding battery replacement. usually its a high cost and most will not go for it
