Hey Folks, I have a 75mbps plan & wifi router is currently placed in 1st of a room & the same room in the 2nd floor is what I use for my work needs. My Wifi speed dips to over 10-20Mbps, if I had to measure the distance vertically in height it’s somewhere around 30 ft or so. I saw people in earlier threads mentioning skipping Wifi Extenders as they decrease speed by over 50%. Do you think getting a mesh router can help solve the problem? Getting a LAN connection is kinda tricky & needs some drilling to the infrastructure which I want to avoid at all costs. What are my options?

may be move LAN cable from ground floor to 1st floor? LAN cable beats shit out of wifi any time in my experience

We bought a router with better area coverage and MU-MIMO and that made a huge improvement.

I hear mesh routers don't bring drop and are better than repeaters and extenders

Wired beats wireless anytime. But if that fails, good mesh routers will do fine, esp at 75 mbps. If you're worried about 50% drop buy 150mbps mesh :P

Any drop would be against rated bandwidth within mesh. Your isp limits are irrelevant within the mesh, lower of the two will apply.

Make sure you’re connected to 5ghz band for starters. If you’re getting the full speed while in the same room, on 5ghz, then consider switching to a mesh. Also, its less about the distance; more about the obstructions. Floors tend to be thicker and more wifi resistant than indoor walls. So that could be one reason why you’re seeing a drop. Got these for one of my homes and it’s coverage and speed has been really really good. (last I remember a maximum of 10% drop in speed in the second unit) https://www.amazon.in/gp/product/B084KJF5DJ/ref=ppx_od_dt_b_asin_title_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1
