I have my first remote job interview soon. What should I answer to "How much salary am I expecting"? If this would have been Indian company I would be expecting pay as per our market, but after some research I found that average remote developer jobs starts from 50k USD. So should I quote that? To give you context it is for role of full stack developer, and I have 5 years of experience. Any thoughts? TIA

If you don't have a figure you are really gunning for, don't answer the question. Say you will leave it for them to make their best offer. Ask them what range they are offering and you can then say that your expectations are within the range (if it is) to continue the interview. If not, be forthright about it. If I have a number they can't match, I will say something like - if that's not in your budget, I am happy to work 3-4 days / week. They will mostly end up matching the offer.
There is no such thing as average remote job salary 😊 I have seen people make $150k and then again $30k for the same job profile. Different countries for the employer and employee. Similar experiences.

I'd go with what Saurabh is saying 💯 There is one point I'd like to add. If at any point you feel cornered by this question ( or any other one), I have found folks agree to this proposition - "I'd like to have more time to think about this. Is it ok if I get back to you on that one." Good luck !! Keep us posted 🙂

Great answers above. On top, I'd recommend 2 things for any interview or major client calls: 1. The briefcase technique by ramit sethi 2. Salary negotiation tactics

Heavily tested in market, All used and won multiple jobs and clients using this in 5 figures ($), hence sharing
