hey guys, any linux ninjas here 🥋 ? I am getting started with ubuntu and created a droplet in DO and installed FW and stuff. Now I am a .net develoeper - still a .net developer 😕 . So I need to host .net core web api on ubuntu on Nginx. I installed in successfully but the managing it through CLI is really difficult. I am trying 1. to host multiple websites from this. 2. trying to install lubuntu on TightVPN and connect - as I am not used to CLI only 3. In windows- IIS has a good GUI to manage websites. Trying to see if theres anything in nginx to track and monitor the server / websites

i have tried many tutorials for doing the three things I said. coudlnt get anything to work. Is there any server manager gui for Nginx? to create new servers, modify rules etc? and is using TightVNC okay or should I learn CLI 😞

@adorable-musician-78571 any particular reason why you are trying to setup .Net core on Linux?
I apologize for being a negative nelly — but setting up .net core to work well on Linux requires a fair bit of motivation 😊 I have tried in the past but in the interest of time, have switched to using a Windows instance. If you are just looking to get your app off the ground in an affordable and quick manner, you could even look at AWS LightSail. They have a 512 MB Windows Server instance starting at $8 and a 1GB one at $12. First month is free as well. https://lightsail.aws.amazon.com

Yes. You are right. It requires a lot of motivation. The reason is fairly simple. The ram and CPU usage of Ubuntu is better than Windows as there's no gui always running. Lots of system processes are less. Also spinning up Linux and installing via cli is really easy to automate. The price is comparatively very cheap too. You get the same $12 at $5 in Linux Use nginx to serve websites as it's much better in performance than iis. I know we can install nginx on Windows as well but personally I won't take the effort when iis is super simple. When there's less gui involved, and installation happen through cli, mostly the security risks are greatly reduced, I think

Sounds good. If you are doing for learning and have time on your hands, go for it 👍 BTW I think Win server boxes also you can get to run without GUI and use powershell to configure. Would love to hear what you finally go ahead with 😊 God speed!

Cool. Will let you know what I end up with. 🤷
@loud-glass-33663 I got the .net core API to work inside Ubuntu 🙌 . Now working on CI CD with gitlab to deploy into the instance.

Awesome. Thanks for the update @adorable-musician-78571 🙌 Any blog posts on the cards? 😉

I will be doing but I want to complete the whole CI CD and make it as a post, rather than just deployment to Ubuntu
