It depends .. I have over the course of 4 years, applied to and interviewed with a bunch of companies in US, UK, Europe & Australia.
In have found 3 types of companies:
1. Those wanting to specifically hire Indians, Indonesians, etc. Basically these companies are looking for cheaper labour pools. They will mostly pay at-par with local salaries. Sometimes higher. But they wonโt pay you at-par with their countries.
If you are just starting out, these may be a good transition from commuting -> not commuting + making more than what you currently are.
2. Those hiring for talent.
These companies donโt consider geographic arbitrage and cost of living. They will pay you almost as much as they would pay a local person. Considering they pay higher, they are more sought after and more difficult to get into as well.
3. Those not hiring outside of their countries
This is generally true-er for American companies. They will pay in the high 80Ks, going upto 150-180K but they will not hire outside the US.
Primarily because at that salary point, they can easily find talent in the US still โ and also international taxation is complicated and they donโt want to get into it.
You will have better luck getting work in European & Australian companies because there is a shortage of talent there and also because India has easily 4-6 hour overlap with these.
