Question of the Week
Q : What’s something you’re proud of? Each goal you accomplish is worthy of celebration and accomplishment, especially when it leads you closer to your dreams. With all the goals you have accomplished in life ( big or small) - which ones are you proud of… ?
It Doesn’t matter what people think about you. It’s what you think of yourself that really counts.

I am proud of the fact that I could quit by job and start off on my own. I didn’t think I had it in me to keep track of finances or manage my work (or get paid). But I have overcome that barrier and realised it was after all not so scary at all. what about you ?

Multiple things! • Making a few, but really great friends for life! • Not pursuing my bachelor’s degree from any renowned college, which helped me develop a habit of self-study and that further helped me in getting the most out of my master’s degree. This habit stays with me now. • I was a noob in managing personal finance (all I understood was that salary gets credited at the end of the month), but in past few years I decided to dig deeper on all aspects of it, this has helped me in achieving some major financial goals earlier than I anticipated.

A few: • disassociated myself from all social media. • stopped caring about the number of books I read. Care only now what I learn from the books. Quality over quantity. • been writing everyday for about 2 years now. • got a rock solid grasp on my finances (I think).

disassociated myself from all social media.
I’m curious how did you go about it?

@miniature-exabyte-51670 I just don't login to instagram, twitter or facebook anymore.

I logged out of FB once in 2016 and never logged back in. I don't even remember the date, it wasn't planned. But glad it happened.

One thing that really helped do a retrospective is “self paced learning with consistent effort and practice”. I really doubted on myself when I was hired on-campus and found it hard to understand programming in the initial days. Proper guidance from mentors has helped me where I am today. I am proud that I believe is practice and consistency.

This is a great question, Sheeba 👍 This reminds me of the shift I made from COBOL to Rails by learning on the internet. I had spent 3 years at Amdocs, Pune and a lot of friends, colleagues warned me that I would find it difficult to change my tech stack and that my experience would now be counted as zero 😕

My bucket: • recently, started my journey towards financial independence and/or wealth creation 💰 • no longer "addicted" to social media. Use it only if absolutely necessary (like flat hunting) twitterparty • been mentoring students, and working professionals for >3 years now, and I am more than happy to see my mentees achieving their goals 🎯 • developed a habit of reading books and listening podcasts 📚 • developed a novel algorithm for one of our client's project 👨‍💻 • left a hectic work-place environment with little to no career growth. Stayed low for 6 months, and landed a job (current one). Couldn't be HAPPIER 😄

Will always be proud of publishing my book. Gave me a lot of insight into technical writing and publishing and looking forward to more books Second would be my contributions to Stack Overflow. I started it to contribute back but also used it as an opportunity to learn new stuff. Blogged about it here - https://stacktoheap.com/blog/2012/10/17/learning-by-answering-questions/

During college I thought development was cumbersome and monotonous. My experience so far proved it wrong (intact 🤯 )

Had to introspect for a while to answer this question 😄 • If you want to be philosophical, I would say my biggest achievement is that I became an "individual" early in life after observing group-thinking everywhere in college. I still see a lot of people base their whole life on their group identity and it saddens me to see that they don't think for themselves and don't try to find their own truths. • Slowly learning to let go of my impostor syndrome. When I had quit my job, I didn't know there was a thriving community of remote workers in India and was worried I'd be jobless soon. Barely made money in my first year of freelancing but things eventually turned around and I earn quite well. • Learnt programming on my own. Never had a mentor so it was hard but worth it. Gave me an appreciation for good mentors. Now when I am learning something new, I always look for mentors who can guide me. Pro tip - Never shy away from seeking help! Wonderful thread, by the way 😊

• Being able to take the big step of quitting my job in US and moving back to India to stay closer to family • Working with many startups over the course of last year and growing from both business and technical perspective • almost zero social media interaction , though people have started polluting LinkedIn • Realizing that life and personal relationships take precedence over career goals in the long run • Buying a new apartment with me and my wife contributing equally as my parents in Delhi, setting up foundations to start a family of my own hopefully soon Thanks @polite-secretary-64403 for starting this. positive vibes to start the day :)

This is a great thread 🙂 For me it'd be this: I finished all the volumes of the Game of Thrones books recently 😊 Its not a big deal for most people because these are easy to read books, and very interesting too. But since I was never much of a reader, I never thought I'll be able to finish them. So when I look at the shelf, I feel a weird kind of pride. 🥲

I have built an android mobile application and a game when I was in 3ed year. Even though I was learning OOP, Java, and Database Design, I somehow managed to create it by exploring various blogs and tutorials which inspired me to build something new rather than working for MNCs. Because of that, I have been part of a few very early-stage startups or building something on my own. Thank you, everyone, for your responses. Have a great weekend! 🖖

Hmm, my age will show with this: 1. Have been building my company for almost 8 years now despite many many set backs. Results are now turning positive which is a huge achievement. 2. I thought I could not do digital marketing but was able to get it done with help from friends and persistence and now we have a new stream of leads which we did not know existed. 3. Learnt electronics hardware, coding etc and launched a raspberry pi payload into space after a marathon effort of 2 years. 4. Have a consistent habit of introspection and prayer daily which helps me to stay grounded. 5. Have been a runner for more than a decade and was able to clock 1650 km in a calendar in 2020. Thanks @polite-secretary-64403 for the question. Would love to know more about others are proud of in this community.
