I remember we had a discussion about moving to Discord not long back, Just wanted to share an experience - we moved a large community from Slack to Discord recently & it went smoothly. Honestly, I was a bit skeptical about the move but within a week of transition, I’m (& other members) loving Discord a lot more than Slack. I now see why it makes sense to use Discord platform for running communities.

Discord is great for learning communities as well. Learning Blender (which is notorious for being complicated for beginners) and it was nice with people, chats, rooms and threads there!

Thanks, Bilal for sharing your experience. I feel the same - Discord is a great place to build communities. What are the particular features, that you (or your community) like the most?

@witty-gigabyte-47737 out of curiosity, which community?

Here are some things I love about Discord • All my channels are associated under my single account unlike Slack I don’t have to register/login to them individually • Their “Thread” feature is simply awesome - I can explicitly create a new thread & name it which will show up in the sidebar under the channel name, making it easier to keep track of • Inbuilt audio & video calling with screen sharing functionality for 1:1 or community calls which works flawlessly • All their client apps are so fast and nicely done

Interesting. Thanks for sharing Bilal!
Another miffing thing about Slack, it asks you to send you emails every time you join a community, Slackbot annoying you about tutorials, and everyone being asked to pay for a premium Slack account 😂
