Parliamentary Committee coming up with proposal doesn't mean it becomes a law, Indian Service Sector (which has been working from home for over a year now) largely depends on corporate VPN, and knowing Govt awareness of technology, I doubt this will even become a bill (let alone a law).

I understand that this is just a proposal, but the issue here is the continuous attempts being made to erode citizens' privacy and move towards a surveillance state. And looking back at all the things that've been happening I wouldn't be surprised if they actually go ahead and ban VPN companies from operating anyway.

They could also make it so that corporate vpn is allowed but others aren't. Or that they want backdoor in vpns. Such proposals keep paving the way for at least some of this to creep in at some point of time. We also have a lot of people ready to benefit from such moves by proposing and lobbying for “make in India” government-compliant stacks.
