Hi anyone buying new Macbook pro 2021? I am thinking of getting one. Mostly programming, docker and mild video editing. My windows laptop is almost dead

I have one pre-ordered but shipping delays will make delivery possible only in late November. 😬

Planning to, yes! Haven’t placed an order because of the nov/dec delivery date. Will buy when it’s in stock or try to get it from the US.

cool nice. The only thing I dont like about the design is the curve radius at bottom edges 😁
f
Given the performance and battery life it provides, I’d take it even if it had potato shape all around. 😂

Wonder how cheaper the resellers would be.

Well, if you have student ID (verifiable via UNiDAYS), you can get 5% off, which is significant for mac prices. Of course Apple robs because people pay whatever they charge. 🤧
t
yes got a student id from my cousin

don't forget ac+!

Are you planning to buy the M1 chip, I'd say do some research before you buy. I have a M1 chip Air and coding with python is a nightmare. The new architecture does not support some very basic libraries that worked with the previous intel chip. I am using a different environment to install those libraries. While almost everyone in my team is using
pip
I am using
conda
and there are a few libraries that
conda
doesn't support that
pip
does. Speed and battery are really good but if you are into hardcore programming, do your research to see if M1 is a good choice for you.

Yes that’s true about Python support, specifically Python packages that utilize Intel’s MKL have performance issues with AMD too (not because AMD is inferior, but libraries don’t use generic x86 Instruction Set that works on AMD as well, there’s a reddit thread on this), so ARM support is out of question. I don’t know if ARM has anything equivalent or not.

@flat-morning-91037 Thanks for the thread. And @thousands-computer-9471 there is an issue with building docker images. You should specifically mention the platform with which you would like to build your docker image. Here is a good article explaining it.

Ok thanks @eager-plastic-76453. Will look into this
