Do we've anyone who extensively does open source contribution? Would love to know how you got started?
g
I wouldn't say extensive, but I try to contribute to repos that I regularly use. Have contributed to Typescript, Playwright, Svelte and minor ones in Prettier, Deno, Caprover, etc. Also maintaining https://github.com/mermaid-js/mermaid-live-editor Started out with fixing bugs that I came across in projects that I used.

When I find issues with projects I use, I try to create a detailed issue and try to fix.

I got introduced to open source through dgplug in 2010. There is a summer training that happens for for past 14 years which I joined. I started contributing during the summer training itself. A couple of months later I got introduced to Fedora Project. Contributed & worked with the team for around 5 years, and later joined the team full-time working on Fedora Infrastructure. Since then been working full time open source & remote. For the past 1.5 years, I've been working with the Flatcar Container Linux team. Other than these on the side, I've contributed to few other projects in Mozilla, CPython, VLC, K8s etc. I love being in the open source communities which makes me go back and contribute. Wrote an post couple of years back: https://words.yudocaa.in/blog/how-to-get-started-with-open-source/ (I should update this one)

I got introduced to opensource because I had a cheap graphic card that wouldn't work with the existing driver in the X window system on Linux. I look at the code, figured out how the detection routing worked and hacked it to make it for my model of graphics card. I mostly contribute to low-level software - Linux kernel, RTOSes, core libraries.
