Just got denied for a 135 k USD job based out of Boston, because I don't have the authorization to work in the US. They agreed that I am an expert and have the necessary experience to take the job and loved the skill set. It sucks to be based in India when I clearly know that I am missing a lot of money on the table

What was the discussion like? Did they give a reason why can't they hire you as contractor?
a
Looks like a bot screened out my linked-in profile and gave the details to HR. HR looked into the resume and said it looked great via linked in chat and scheduled a video call. In the video call, she started asking for details about me, and finally, she asked if I have work authorization. I said no, then she said the company is looking to hire in house and removing the existing contractors as well

Sucks. But Bruh this is not blind 😂

Web3 fixes everything
@alert-lawyer-35612 Best would be to target companies who dont have this requirement no? Plenty of companies who hire remote (globally)

TC?

nvm, it's called current total comp

I'm not sure I understand the frustration. Companies are free to choose candidates in their country of choice. Candidates are free to select companies that hire remote. Also, that salary may not be huge depending on the city someone is in the US.

When you are making a quarter of it, for the same skillset it hurts a bit. Also, if someone lives in US after taxes & a comfortable living they get to save 40 to 50 k, they get to save little more than what I am earning here.

Is it only the currency difference or can you not get a much higher pay inside India? I think that is a question to think. In my case I don't get the salary level within India that I can get from US or European startups working remote.

Because it's not easy to sponsor visa. Also there is high risk for IP where there is non existent legal system.
