Anyone using custom ROMs (Android) on their phone recently? Specifically unrooted ROM? How’s the banking/payments/streaming app situation? Do they work the same as they would on stock ROM? Background: I’m on OnePlus 7T, this will probably be my last Android phone but I need to use it for some months before moving on and OxygenOS 11 is pain in every way imaginable.
Alternative ROMs I’m looking at are: • LineageOS • dotOS • PixelExperience I don’t plan to root it (and load Magisk modules) as that’s when aforementioned apps start to suspect and prevent usage. But installing custom recovery and the ROM would indeed trigger SafetyNet, and there aren’t enough resources available around the same that I can refer to. 😕

I did try a custom ROM, usually GPAY and few payment apps wont work due to security reasons. Even if reverted back to original for some reasons mine didnt work, finally ended up bricking the phone

Also using 7T with OOS11. What issues are you facing? Even-though this will be my last oneplus, I'm not having much daily driver issues.

@glamorous-mouse-696 in my case it is frequent freezing on lock screen while trying to unlock phone with fingerprint, heating during charging (even if phone is not in use) and poor battery life. I've done everything that can be done (factory reset a few months ago, uninstalling apps that aren't being used, not leave too many apps running at once), besides these, OOS 11 is far from what Stock Android should look like.

Woah 😳 I've only faced some lag and crash when directly taking photo from whatsapp. Getting around 4-5Hr SOT, as I'm at home don't bother much about battery either. Plug it in when starting work in morning, take it off when full. That usually lasts till next morning for me.

Yes, that's the issue with current OnePlus as a brand, their two devices of exact same model behave differently, and given that Google Pixel aren't coming to India, we're left with Samsung as only Android option left (besides Xiaomi and Motorola), so I might as well ditch Android for good.

I just can't bring myself to give up on the last bit of freedom on Android and jump ship. Was thinking about switching just before all the CSAM fiasco... Had good expectation for Zenfone 8 for a light and compact phone other than 13 Mini. But they didn't release it yet 😞

poor battery life.
Side note - A couple of months ago OnePlus was running a free battery replacement offer. I only had to pay a measly service fee of 450Rs. Not sure if the offer is still live but you may want to call up your local service centre and ask if the offer is still live. You can get the battery replaced for free.

I doubt if my 7T would be eligible for battery replacement. I bought it in launch month so it is 2 years old now.

Apparently it was only available from OP3 to OP6T - https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/gadgets-news/oneplus-offering-free-battery-replacement[…]-reddit-oneplus-yet-to-confirm/articleshow/85680189.cms But I suppose it won't hurt to call your local service centre and enquire

Same here. Lost faith in Apple after the CSAM debacle. Can't believe I fell for their "we care about privacy" marketing. Another huge deal-breaker for me is not having the option to record calls on iPhone. All the recorded calls on my OP6 have been a saving grace against dishonest bank executives, customer support staff, etc.

My use isn't tied to Android-specific features as of now, and I've been using iOS (on iPad) for past 7 years so nothing is new there that would bother me. As for CSAM, I've read (and listened to several podcasts) on the topic, and my observation is that it was more of a communication issue from Apple rather than any real privacy compromise.

Oh damn, I didn't even think of losing call recording. Thats always a life saver.
