How'd you react if a past intern made a not for profit clone of your generic SaaS app (like CRMs, online code runners, notion-like editors etc.) ? Ref: https://intuitiveexplanations.com/tech/replit/

There was huge controversy over this blog when it was posted on HackerNews. The project is back up. The CEO of replit was roasted by almost everyone. Here are the details - 1) Replit itself is inspired by Codeacademy. The CEO of replit decided to copy the online IDE idea when he has working at Codeacademy and built a for-profit business around it. Hypocrite much? 2) After being called out, the CEO's reply was a classic silicon valley narcissistic tech-bro victim card response - "It seems like I still haven't forgotten that I am a struggling child from a third world country. Blah. Blah. Blah" He got roasted even more for his response.

@faint-energy-11966 How'd you react though if this happened with you?

I think anyone's response to something like this would be highly contextual. If an intern steals propriety tech and releases a related product before we've hit the market, I'd be calling my lawyers. On the other hand, if my product is a generic tool then I don't see any reason to react. People make clones all the time. If an intern doesn't do it, someone else is going to do it. How many people am I going to try to stop?

to add some perspective, there are open source clones for nearly all the large SaaS players out there but I donโ€™t think this effects their market share at all.
