@flat-morning-91037 Do you have experience with remote.com and if it covers Equity compensation?

@mysterious-yak-23452 They recently partnered with Carta to handle Equity/ESOPs for their customers https://marketplace.remote.com/carta so you can reach out to them for more specific questions that you might have. πŸ™‚ P.S. GitLab uses Remote in several countries to manage team members and their experience have been great so far.

What will be the tax implications of this? If I am hired by someone as an international employee through remote, will I be taxed as a contractor or an employee?
m
Depends. There are 2 ways to look at this. β€’ Hired as Contractor β€’ Hired as Employee If you are hired as Contractor, as far as I know, equity cannot be granted in this scenario. If you are hired as Employee, then Equity can be granted via Employer of Record (in this case remote.com) and we need to follow Indian taxation. This is based on what I have read. Best to confirm with remote.com folks

We’re using https://letsdeel.com/. Both contractor and employment agreement are possible to setup. @chilly-leather-22154 Depends on your agreement. Most startups prefer a Contractor relation to simplify things from their end.

@mysterious-yak-23452 equity can be granted to contractor. Not sure if payroll tools are best for it. My company uses carta and gives NSOs to non-US employees/contractors.

oh didn't know that @billions-camera-12557 Thank you. The only reason I was looking at payroll tools is because I thought we can receive equity only if we are permanent employee via these payroll services.
