Hey guys, planning on getting an iphone 13 pro from Dubai/Canada/Usa. Have a few questions on this :) • Has anyone gotten it from these places and using it in India? • How does warranty work? • Do carriers work? (Airtel/jio)
c
Model in North America is not fully compatible with all channels elsewhere. Although you may not have any problems right away, there might be issues later. Avoid IMHO. I have the 13 Pro from the UAE (Rest-of-the-World model). Works perfectly with Airtel (and Jio). Warranty is global. If you get AppleCare, they will honour it everywhere, although they will not confirm this officially. Wife and 4 other friends have all done the same.

• Got an iPhone 13 Pro from US 2 weeks back • Apple gives warranty on iPhones in India purchased from US • Atleast Vi as physical SIM and Jio as eSIM works perfectly, has mmWave antenna too, but wont be of much use here Had bought an iPhone 11 Pro from US 2 years back as well, no issues so far 🙂

If your plan is to save on taxes, buying from US or Dubai is better compared to Canada. As for compatibility and warranty, there's absolutely no issue, even dual SIM activation with Indian carriers works fine. Just be sure to unbox and activate it before travelling to India or else you'd be held by customs to pay hefty ransom import duty.

though i got mine in 'packed and sealed' box 😛, but bringing like this is risky, unboxed and activated is the way to go

Nice thanks folks! @cold-school-3088 Do I need to get apple care at time of purchase or can I get it in India post purchase? (And what's the benefit of apple care?)
And is this the model that works in India?

Get Apple Care at the time of purchase if you can. It’s cheaper than in India. AppleCare+ is just (a little expensive) first party insurance. The thing that I get it for is the relative cushion if there is accidental damage.
@broad-camera-13514 check the models here, to see why I did not buy the US model: https://www.apple.com/iphone/cellular/#iphone-13-pro-max The screenshot you shared is from the US. And yes the unlocked, non-carrier model is the one to choose. This is where you see the model in the UAE: https://www.apple.com/ae/shop/buy-iphone/iphone-13-pro/6.1-inch-display-128gb-graphite

Protip: Apple phones in Dubai comes with two variants, with and without Facetime. Just make sure you pick the right one

@cold-school-3088 are there any limitations on the bands?
@witty-gigabyte-47737 thanks will keep in mind
f
Don't worry too much about 5G bands support, India is yet to see any 5G rollout, and by the time it is prevalent enough to be usable, you'll likely have a newer phone.
c
The limitations are only edge case and only for 5G; I plan to use the phone for a long time so not keen on a compromise that reduces life. Also, would like to use 5G in Europe and the UK, and I don’t want a hardware limitation. I am being cautious, I don’t actually know what the problems might be.
b
So iphone 13 pro 5g won't work in india or will it?
Want to understand the limitation more
c
I am not an expert on the limitations. And there is no 5G yet in India, so no real world tests. My guess is that when 5G does launch, they will support the Indian model, because it’s too lucrative not to. I have no idea wether the US model will work, but I don’t know who/if anyone can clarify. This thread is so much longer than I thought it would be! 🤓

as per link shared by @cold-school-3088, i think US model has more (most as well) number of bands than the Indian variant, both for 5G and LTE, shouldn't be a problem I guess 🤔
