What's a good low-cost/free blogging platform (with all the SEO things) for a hobby?
a
Hashnode seems to be the best these days

Thank you @adorable-furniture-84197. Hashnode seems to be for tech/developer folks. I am looking for a non-tech hobby project, and one for a D2C idea that I am trying to gauge interest using organic traffic.

Medium/ tumblr/Wordpress/ghost

@hundreds-winter-88791 you can move hashnode blogs to your own domain and brand it as you like. Doesn't have to be Dev only

@adorable-furniture-84197 that's good to know. I will explore further. @modern-table-48211 I had made a call to publish only on Medium. But yesterday I realised that Medium’s metered reading is throttling my readership. I can publish endlessly, but what's the point if people can't read it without paying? Will check if Tumblr is still in vogue. Wordpress.org will require maintenance and Wordpress.com is lacking in many ways. Ghost’s pricing is quite steep for a hobby project. 😅 Thank you again for all the inputs and would welcome more from others.

You can self-host Ghost if you'd like. Costs around $5/mo on DigitalOcean and you can run it for free on Railway as we give you usage worth $10 for free if you attach a card. *Disclaimer: I work at Railway. https://dev.new/template/ghost

@hundreds-winter-88791 Medium charges people even when you've published for free? 😳 An adjacent solution might be something like substack?

WordPress is best for it

@dry-monkey-93718 a free reader get 3/5 articles per month to read. If my article is the 6th article that person reads in a month it affects my readership. I am not a part of medium’s writer partnership. So not sure if it applies to the articles I write, but it has given me second thoughts. Happy to stand corrected if somebody knows this a lot better than I do.
