Hi tribe! I'm looking to diffuse wall mounted bulbs and make the light softer. How do I do that without replace the existing bulb mount? Do you know of any lamp shades that can be put over regular bulb holders? Or has anyone DIYed something like this?
d
Try butter paper, just wrap them around the bulb/tube.

Considering LED bulbs also get slightly hot, would it be safe?

I used cellophane paper to change the color. Had wrapped around with a rubber band, and it worked fine 🙂

I have had good experience by using regular A4 paper cut to size into cones and taped 3-4 inches from teh LED bulbs to avoid affecting their lifetime by overheating.

@chilly-rocket-77832 @billowy-spoon-1825 did these things hold up over time?

I tend to stay in a house for just an year, it did hang in there for that much time 😅

Putting anything flammable around a bulb is a fire hazard. I have not done this myself, but a cheap diffuser (for video lights) might be a starting point for a DIY hack. Like this one: https://www.amazon.in/Generic-Universal-Bounce-Diffuser-White_15x17/dp/B0196DYWSW I strongly recommend that you do to a physical store that sells photography equipment and talk to them - since you'll be using things outside of their intended purpose.

My DIY paper lampshades on LED-bulbs are holding good for 4 years (>5000 hours) now. 😇 (frankly i am surprised that led-bulb has lasted 4 years!)

DIY Paper lamshades work fine. Just keep a few inches of margin from the bulb. Also, cut out holes for heat to escape.
