Hi #tribe In your experience, how much of a hassle it is to get the NOC signed by your landlord for the GST registration here in bangalore? Anyone with experience with this? What are my options if worst case, the landlord refuses to sign it? I'll be starting a contract role soon and will need to register under gst with my rented address. Thanks!

Totally depends on your relationship with your landlord. Even if you can't get one from the landlord, there are virtual office services that'll provide necessary documents required.

Thanks @glamorous-mouse-696. Any examples of such services? Also in that case, can I claim the rental expense while tax filing?

WeWork or any other coworking space can provide you with this service

If you have an rental agreement on your name than NOC from landlord is not mandatory. That's how I registered it.

@able-xylophone-142 my CA specifically asked for a NOC along with the agreement. Is this a commercial rental agreement you're talking about? Or residential? Also does the rental agreement itself has any clause about the permission for running business?

My CA also initially ask for NOC. My landlord decline NOC saying that the residents agreement is enough. I am not sure about the clause.

there is a very high chance of your GST application getting rejected with a residential address. note that residential properties are charged discounted rates for water, electricity fees by govt so they don't like you running a business from a home. you can check with any coworking space and buy a virtual address from them. they will charge a monthly fee for allowing you to use their address for registration.
