Need some suggestion Is buying MAC book M1 pro will be worth the investment Or should I just go with MAC book air with M1 chip PS: The tech I use on the daily basis Node, React, Docker, etc

My company provided me and my team members with MacBook Air (M1, 2020), Chip Apple M1, Memory 16 GB. I have been using it for the last 4 months and use it for development with the same tech stack and even more than you have mentioned. Itโ€™s working fine without any issue for me. Personally, I think itโ€™s a good laptop for development If you have budget constraints the go for MAC book air with M1 chip

V8 based runtimes tend to grow on resource use overtime, if you plan to use mac for more than 3 years, get MBP. It isn't just about processor but thermal limits too, where Air doesn't have air. Also, if your work doesn't involve building ARM binaries (AKA iOS/Android apps), why even spend on Mac, get a Windows laptop (AMD Ryzen) and use Linux on it, you'll get much powerful web-dev machine for half the cost. Having used both macOS and Linux for work, I'd say macOS is mediocre in comparison.

@flat-morning-91037 I have been using Linux(Ubuntu) from quite long, But the purpose of MAC is good battery backup with good performance. Currently, I use ASUS G15 but sucks in backup,

Battery back up I definitely agree that M1 is unlike anything, but then avoid M1 Air due to thermal throttling.

Note: M1 MBP does not support more than one external display. You'll have to get a dock which has DisplayLink if you want to use that. Except that negative, it's a nice laptop that doesn't heat up. Very quiet too.

if your use case is going to be docker, i'd recommend using linux.

Hey thanks, @wide-twilight-82330 for pointing out the external display thing
Thanks @flat-morning-91037 for mentioning the thread
@clever-advantage-29037 as I have heard now the docker support is fine in M1
f
Yes, docker works on Apple Silicon without issues, but if you're running multiple containers, don't expect to get steller battery life, it'll still be marginally better than Windows laptop but the price you pay to get mac over that isn't worth it.

The MacbookPro M1Pro supports 2 external displays. Using the same stack as you, the battery consumption is a bit high. With monitors, you can expect a battery life of 5-6 hours.

A lot of suggestions here, Apple laptops are generally very reliable and are perfect for development work. For me they are just perfect. It really depends on what you want to do as well. Like if you are into video games Apple is not your best bet. Iโ€™m sure ASUS ROG has got good gaming laptops that are also worth the investment.

Hey, thanks for the input @happy-teacher-99991, Yeah, I am just looking for development purposes. Mostly it seems going for MAC book pro M1 is better now rather then air.
