anyone into pottery? been wanting to learn since forever but not quite sure where to start

I used to do pottery back in college and have done it once a blue moon after that. What questions do you have?
There are two major techniques for pottery, hand built and wheel thrown. You can order clay from online or local pottery studio / potters and start building stuff with your hands. Lots of useful videos on youtube. You can reuse the clay again and again (check videos on technique). For wheel thrown you would need to do find a studio and a teacher who can teach you the technique and a machine for you to practise. Do a course with a group or 1:1 depending on budget and time. If the studio is accessible then continue honing your craft there; otherwise you can buy your own machine for home if you are serious.

As with any hobby the less friction in starting things, the higher likelihood of you picking it up. Hand built pottery is the easiest to start with and you can create cute stuff from Day-1. Just order clay and pick up anything. You can create animals, small utensils etc from 1st sitting. If you are living with family then you can build Ganesha, his rat, his plate/food etc and create a nice set piece (I tried this with my roommates few years back and we all enjoyed it thoroughly). Wheel thrown pottery takes a bit of time to master. Some people are natural at it, while others like me take time; but is still lot of fun doing that. I think most courses would be 8-10 sittings where you will be able to throw a good cylinder (i.e. say glass); some people go further too. I am based out of blr, don’t have idea on NCR region.
