Hi tribe, does anyone here take Vitamin D supplements? Please share recommendations.
p
I did a random blood test and found severe vit D deficiency. I am using healthkart's supps from then on. It's pretty good, I can recommend

Solis d3 solution, or uprise d3 capsules. 60k IU, once a week, atleast 4 consecutive doses, atmost 8, once a year or so. These have good bio availability and are not as expensive as some fancier options. Pair with b12 supplements since deficiencies tend to occur together. I am currently on a uprise d3 weekly schedule.

Uprise d3 was prescribed to me when once I accidentally broke my neck sometime in 2020. Are you taking it with or without prescription? @tall-postman-9284

d3 capsules dont need prescription anymore they can be bought from amazon also now. Always good to get a blood work done though to understand your vitamin D levels

Without prescription. It's available otc. My sister is a doctor and recommended it to me. Yearly blood tests should give good indicator of whether you should repeat the supplement course, and approximately when. Though vit d overdose is rare, it can happen. We can build up a good reserve in body fat and replenish it once every few months or a year as needed. (unlike b12 which just passes out when excess, as greenish urine and is practically impossible to overdose on.)

If you have severe d3 deficiency, go for an 6L IU injection in consultation with your doctor. Otherwise 60K IU capsule once every week for 4 week on, 8 weeks off. This is the routine I follow based on my tests and sun exposure I get. It can change depending on your sun exposure and severity of deficiency. Also have Milk πŸ₯›. D3 only helps absorption of Calcium and few other elements. You need to consume calcium rich stuff to actually benefit from your healthy D3 levels.

To piggyback, any recommendations for a Vit B12 brand? I've been taking carbamide vit d3 weekly over the past month or so and felt a noticeable difference from before.

IM injections are best for B12. Orally, almost all supplements are the same. Get any otc bcomplex tablets. It's one of the if not the most used supplement in india. when old folk or rural folk talk about getting a "strength" injection they are talking of b12. It's also given when patient wants something but there's no discernible issue, as a placebo. B12 deficiency is prevalent and manifests as lethargy, of all things!

@full-balloon-83529 For b12 I'm using Neurobion Forte. I had to get multiple B12 shots to get myself from severe to normal first though. Best to get yourself tested. Some health insurance allows such preventive check ups.

B12 is simpler. Take daily supplements until urine gets greenish tint. Pause for a few months and repeat. As @lemon-knife-94497 said, start off with a IM course if you have severe deficiency. Doctor should prescribe this based on blood report. Alternate day shots to alternate bums/other muscular areas, 4-6 minimum. These can be painful though, depending on who's doing the poking and how well they do it.

Always have D3 + K2 together, D3 alone is pointless as it’s water soluble

D3 isn't water soluble, it is a fat soluble vitamin which is why toxicity is a concern and long term stores are possible as well.

I personally don't think it's healthy to cycle heavy doses of multivitamins. It's expensive but just get a bottle of good brand of Daily Vit D capsules. 2000IU or 5000IU for higher deficiency.

as @swift-pilot-25722 said, D3 with K2 is the best option. i make my parents take this Nutrainix product on occasion

@tall-postman-9284 toxicity is extremely rare, maybe like 0.001% or even lesser of world population. Instead, the true epidemic would be Vit D deficiency - every1 has it at some level. read the book - power of vitamin D and some research papers (but yes , you maybe right on the soluble, I just know d3 + k2 is essential due to soluble issue)
