Hello friends! Is college degree mandatory for software jobs at MNCs? My brother is doing BTech at a 3 tier college. He is already aware that college is focused mostly at academic and not employable skills. He wants to drop out, and focus on getting internships and converting to a full time job. I know that startups are open minded and only care about tech and communication skills. But how about MNCs, do college degree still matter to them?

yep, MNC's definately ask for college certificates! I would suggest him to check with the department HOD to try and see if he can get attedence waver and work at a startup.

Nice idea, would make him try.

I would say yes. It's not just about employment in India, but if he gets an opportunity abroad sometime later, having a degree is a necessity for many visa types. DO bare minimum stuff to get past the college requirements, but have a degree just for the sake of it.

Yes. Look at it this way - Any popular/in-demand job/role that has 100x-1000x people applying for it, it is practically impossible to evaluate them all. Thus, the employer will resort to something manageable like a CGPA cut-off (or only allowing students from certain institutions). Today it is MNCs. But whatever is in-demand in future will likely resort to filtering based on educational credentials.

+1 to @brash-monitor-80970. You'll find plenty of employers in India who won't care for a degree. But as soon as you want to move out of the country, not having a degree would be a roadblock. I convinced my Dad to let me to drop out after my third year but held on for a year just so that I can be eligible for a visa later.

Got it
Thanks all!
