https://web.hypothes.is/ Pretty useful tool for annotating and taking notes on live web pages
q
I came across this a few days back, but didn't explored it further. Have you explored it? If I have a bunch of notes in HTML format on my local machine, can I use this to annotate them in the browser?
f
Yup, you can do that
Its pretty useful for taking notes on software documentation
q
Unfortunately, it doesn't support annotating local HTML files.
f
I does annotate local files as well. However it saves the annotations to your account, not marking permanently on the web page.
q
How did you do it? I am getting the following message.
f
I am using firefox and the bookmark tool (not extension). I doesn't show any error

Thank you. I am able to replicate the same in Firefox 🙂 I can save the highlighted files locally and the highlight remains. How about the annotation? Can we download the annotation?
Got it 🙂 Once again, thank you for sharing this neat trick with Firefox and annotating local HTML files. This sure saved me a lot of headache.
f
Glad it helped. The annotations on local html are stored in the online account, referring to original webpage instead. Not sure if that would be an issue.
q
It wouldn't. We can download the annotations using their API, in either HTML/CSV/JSON formats. Then maybe a bit of manual work is needed to sort the annotations out, but that is fine.
f
Oh, didn't know that. cool.
