Hello Guys, my name is Venkat. I am a Technical Manager/Architect working in Java space. I have 20 years in Java, J2ee, Spring/Boot, Javascript. I resigned from the current role. I was thinking to start working as Remote Developer since some time. I was very much interested to start working as remote Developer. But, I don't know much about the process, whom to approach, how to get the work etc., and is it feasible for java experience or some additional skills required. can you Guys throw some light on it. it will be a great help and much appreciated. Thank you all in advance.

Hey Venkata. Welcome to RI. I am sure other folks will chip in. I can get started. What has served me well in my remote career (5 years now out of 13 years) is not to identify myself with a specific technology. Instead I identify as a full stack developer / backend / front end developer. Experience matters and you should be easily be able to pick up a new tech stack if the fit is right. Ofcourse if it is a Java job posting, you will have an advantage โ€” but in my experience, most of the remote job posts donโ€™t offer enterprise level tech - essentially Java / .Net. Node / Python / RoR are more in demand (in that order) (but then these have more competition as well). A hack is to have 2 resumes - 1 which highlights your Java chops and the 2nd one which highlights your experience as a TM / Architect / dev etc. And depending on what job you are applying to, send in that resume.

Hey @bored-dusk-11272 Thanks. I had done a zoom call a few months before on how to find remote jobs. Shared the deck here. Let me know if you have any questions - the deck is not geared to be shared without the talk - so some slides may be confusing. Leave me a comment / question here or on the deck and Iโ€™ll answer there. Thanks. Deck is here: https://srbh.me/GzqH67
