Working on this side project - http://thedaigou.com/ What it does: Help the user find Luxury Brands that are cheaper at destination compared to their home country and help them save money, feel confident in their purchase decisions. Why are we building this: • Shopping is one of the most important things people do when they travel. People like to buy brands and products that are cheaper in the destination compared to their home country. (Think iPhones in the US). We believe that if we create a platform where the user can easily find the prices of different product across different countries, they will be able to better research what they want to purchase. • And the arbitrage in prices can be massive. Fashion brands are up to 50-60% cheaper. Here’s an example:Gucci jacket in china - 3500 pounds- https://www.farfetch.com/cn/shopping/women/gucci--item-14140962.aspx Same jacket in UK - 2600 pounds - https://www.farfetch.com/uk/shopping/women/gucci-web-stripe-jacket-item-14140962.aspx • For the above example, it’s cheaper to take a flight to London from China buy the bag and go back then to buy it in China. This is an established practice in China and is already a multi billion dollar industry! - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daigou What feedback I am looking for • Overall feedback on the product. Still in Beta! • How to grow this? Looking for any growth hackers here who can help me get traffic to this website.

As a Chinese learner, the name looks familiar.

1. Very clothing focussed e.g. no watches (rado), jewellery (chopard) 2. Search delay (time waiting for user to stop typing) is a tad too much 3. Search is hit or miss e.g. typing mont (for montblanc) on the home page returns irrelevant search results at first, then improves "later" 4. Add country flags next to names? 5. Add flags next to currency?
Also, I realised that what I considered luxury brands are high-end consumer brands (helly hansen, desigual, etc.) and not even listed. And the ones listed here, I've never heard about. So, effectively, I only know 2-3 real luxury brands (all used up in the searches above) 😉 which is not surprising. So a "Discover brands" interface might be appropriate for the hoi polloi, or even something like "Show the best deals, I'm going to XYZ country"

Thanks Amit for the feedback! 1. Yes. It's restricted because of our supply. Idea is if we can find a few users who like the product with clothing, then we can additional supply 2. Working on it! 3. Working on it! My hope is the user will get frustrated once and then realise and work around it. 4. Do you think people are aware about country flags? I was not sure if it will create more confusion. 5. Same with currency Yeah, we are targeting high end luxury segment. Idea is that these users have high disposable income. So 1k luxury users are better than 100k average users. But yes, we definitely need to improve the discovery layer. We are launching a 'tag' system which will just apply a predefined filters for users to find brands they like.

@aloof-microphone-56302 Neat concept. Do you mean to offer the information that a product is available cheaper in a different city, or to also do the actual shipment? I just bought an HM Aeron the other day and was looking for alternate countries to import from. In my case I didn’t so much want to save on cost, but wanted quicker delivery — the only authorised reseller in my city was out of stock. In the process I discovered the concept of “Parallel Importer” — it’s not the same as Daigou, but worth looking into. Here’s Unwanted Importers’ story: https://www.unwantedimports.com/herman-miller-singapore-mass-order/
Another feedback — while Daigou is (relatively) common practice, typically only “professionals” will fly from China to Italy to pick up a single specific product. For the casual traveler, a “discover deals in x country” page would be more useful — and you want to optimise for impulse purchase (demonstrate social proof, scarcity etc). I would know 😛
