03/12/2019, 12:39 PM"Community is a quality of the heart, the fruit of our capacity to make the interests of others more important than our own" - Nouwen--- This community is a highly complex network of people from different backgrounds, places, careers, experience and I am afraid programming languages 😛 Having said that, there is a lot of potential in our tribe. And I want to unleash all the possibilities 🔥🚒 ---
📣 Introducing Karmabot 🎉<!channel> In order to promote quality and generosity in this slack group, I want to experiment with @steep-window-4775 to give and track karma points. I feel every good community does need a robust karma system to incentivise good behaviour. And I feel we have found a gem in @steep-window-4775.
"If you give a good thing to the world, then over time your karma will be good, and you'll receive good."It's very easy to appreciate someone using the slack interface. Some examples below 👇
@sankalp ++ shared Thank you for sharing lessons learned from Atomic Habits
@aravind 2++ shared Appreciate that you shared job opportunities in Elastic
@suhas 3++ Thanks for organising the meetup in Bangalore
@rushal ++ Thank you for offering feedback on my work
What are the rules ??Please distribute your karma points judiciously as there is limited amounts. Right now it's set to 30 points for each user every month ( happy to discuss any changes to that number in #meta channel ) These are just guiding principles. Feel free to break them. And obviously they do not cover all the beautiful possibilities 🙂
Max karma points that can be given in offered is 5
- Plan a meetup in your city +3
- Share job leads from your personal network +2
- Being awesome (eg. share a good resource, offer feedback/advice) +1
- Attend a meetup +1
- No show in buddy-call -1
There is automatic karma calculation for reactions to any post. I think it's 0.1 if I remember correctly. So maybe sometimes emoticons are good enough.
You can always type /karma mantra
or @karmabot mantra
to display these rules/guidelines ( which should be updated every few months ).
⚠️ As I mentioned earlier, I want folks to be mindful enough to switch off slack notifications ( or even stay offline ) and check the updates once or twice a day. Let's not focus on adding value at the cost of deep work. Interesting things happen when you do interesting work.
⚠️⚠️ All appreciations and weekly leaderboard will be shared in #kudos channel ( and also as DMs)

Do let me know what you think about this. Share your suggestions/ideas 🤗
P.S. Use /karma tour
to get a 5 minute tour of all the features. I think not all features are applicable to us because we are on a free plan. But we do have all the important ones 😄
