Good Afternoon. Wanted to ask those who hire designers for some quick work. What do you typically look for? We need someone who is adept in UI and UX. The basic designs are being done in Adobe XD including prototyping. So the person needs to come and create the basic theme ( and we have a previous palette that we might reuse) and spruce up the wire frames, create more if needed so that the developer can also get the details required for CSS etc. I don’t think this should require more than 2 weeks at most. Would love to hear from you 🤔

Well I don’t have a lot of perspective of hiring designers but I can speak from my experience as a designer. It seems like you’re looking for UI designer since you already have wireframes that you need to convert to high fidelity designs. Someone who has experience in coming up with an interface theme and component library would be very helpful here. So definitely ask to look at these kind of (actual) projects that he/she has done before. I’d not delve into the timelines but I’d recommend that you keep margin for iterations. This work tends to attract a lot of subjective feedback (e.g. “I don’t like this color”, “Can we make this bigger”) and any good designer would present the work in stages unless you’re on a tight schedule. Hey, as stated above - if you have wireframes and basics sorted, you should go for an UI Designer. Following are a few additional pointers (my perspective): 1. Scope out and document the exact required work (A good designer won't start with one anyways.) 2. Not sure about the adobe eco-system but use something to manage designs and handoffs with developers.

Hey, I feel Sankalp and Himanshu have already explained the design process well enough. I will try to add value at a broader level when going about hiring a freelancer UI designer: 1. Taste - Look at his previous work. Every real designer has a personality. You will be able to see through that in his work. See if that matches your taste. Then give him a small task to — a> Test his speed of execution & b> Confirm the taste match. 2. Cost - As your scope of work is well defined, you can ask for a project cost. [Try to avoid per hour rate if you are new to this]. 3. Handoff - There’s a tool - Zeplin that supports XD design to developer handoff. Use that for getting your design implemented correctly [If you need a help here, we do have a demo video on this, that we share with clients developers - let me know and I will send across].

Loved reading this thread! And @many-minister-78351 I have been using Adobe XD for my freelance works, not many, but a couple of real projects. I'm also comfortable with SketchApp and use it interchangeably. So any questions I can answer? :)
