Hey all, some of us got together and built a GoodReads-like app for lifelong learners who like to learn from all kinds of online resources, not just books. The homepage should explain the idea clearly: https://learnawesome.org/ I just pushed this to prod 2 minutes ago so there could be rough edges here and there. Please report any issues you find. 🙏

Hey, Looks really nice although the autocomplete thing seems to be a little buggy. At times, it goes backwards twice and then re-writes the same sentence.
Another suggestion I have is to use different icons for
Browse by Topic
and
Browse by Format
. Also, the search and about icons are the same?

Thanks so much guys. @tall-advantage-5586 Fixed that page. Also, adding validation to prevent similar cases. For now, you can
follow
your favorite topics. We will prioritize adding material on most followed topics.
@helpful-raincoat-87337 Points taken. Will fix. 🙏
The app is open-source and Git repo is here: https://github.com/learn-awesome/learn

Ah, it’s a Rails app. One more suggestion would be to use this as it will help you a lot with SEO. https://github.com/norman/friendly_id

Suggestion: Can you make the “Show me X…” text clickable so that it directly opens the mentioned search query.

@rough-autumn-89795 Let me see how to do that. I'm using
Typed.js
for the headline animation: https://github.com/mattboldt/typed.js
@helpful-raincoat-87337 Good point. Didn't like `friendly_id`'s stateful approach, so going with standard
to_param
/
from_param
approach. Will deploy soon: https://github.com/learn-awesome/learn/commit/b11ac4c775633fa410bb82e660d12f8faa934021

@acceptable-flag-71699 What I means was, can I create a new empty topic and follow it?

Creating a new topic is currently behind an admin interface. For now, just request in the community chat? https://gitter.im/learn-awesome/community
I must say, this group has been the best for receiving such meaningful feedback 🙏

One design suggestion, on any item page, the link doesn’t look like the primary content on the page. Everytime, I struggle to find how to get to the actual content. A couple of times, I even clicked on the “Topics” tag since it looked more clickable than anything else on the page.

Great project! Agree with @tall-advantage-5586 In this screen, all the buttons / links seem equally important. Plus due to the icon being outside the purple link, it seems least important. A suggestion could be to make the
mathematics
button look like a link (reduce font size) and the actual link say something like —
Go to Resource on <http://xyz.com|xyz.com>
message has been deleted
Also, not sure if this is by design or CSS needs fixing but all your links are purple — which is default colour for a visited link — so I get very confused when I visit a list page. Which ones have I visited and which I need to visit?

@loud-glass-33663 Good points, all of them. Will fix these in design revision.

Great work. Essentially you are building a search engine and organising worlds information 👍 Seems there is a startup that tried it 20 years ago in Mountain View..
